Şerif Saylan; İnşaat mühendisi, profesör, rektör, (d. 1950)(ö. 2015)

Şerif Saylan; 1950 yılında İzmir'in Ödemiş ilçesinde doğdu. İlk ve ortaöğretimini burada tamamladı. Lisans eğitimini Karadeniz Teknik Üniversitesi İnşaat Mühendisliği bölümünde tamamladı. Mezun olduktan sonra aynı üniversitede araştırma görevlisi olarak göreve başladı.

1975 yılında üniversite tarafından eğitim amacı ile ABD'ye gönderildi. George Washington Üniversitesi'nde doktora çalışmasını yaptı. Burada araştırma bursu desteği aldı. National Sciene Foundation tarafından desteklenen burs ile doktorasını 1983 yılında tamamladı. Aynı üniversitede öğretim görevlisi olarak ders verdi.

1983 yılı sonlarında Türkiye'ye geri döndü. Burada Balıkesir Mühendislik Mimarlık Fakültesi'nde Yardımcı Doçent olarak göreve başladı. 1988 yılında üniversiteden ayrılarak iki arkadaşıyla Mataş Ltd. isimli şirketi kurdu ve bir süre burada çalıştı. Yaklaşık bir yıl sonra üniversitedeki çalışmalarına geri döndü.

1991 yılında doçent, 1993 yılında profesör unvanını kazandı. 1984 yılından günümüze Balıkesir Mühendislik Mimarlık fakültesinde çeşitli idari görevlerde bulundu.1998-2002 yılları arasında rektör yardımcılığı, 1999-2005 yılları arasında da 2 dönem fakülte dekanlığı görevlerini üstlendi.

1993-2002 yılları arasında yurt dışı öğrenci danışmanlığı görevinde bulundu. Almanya, Bahreyn ve ABD'de çeşitli araştırmalara katıldı.

Ulusal ve uluslararası bilim dünyasında birçok bildirisi ve makaleleri bulunmaktadır. Ayrıca birçok öğrencinin yüksek lisans tezini ve doktora çalışmalarında danışmanlık yapmıştır. Doktora tezi jüri üyeliklerinde bulunmuştur. Çeşitli bilimsel içerikli dergilerde hakemlik görevleri yapmaktadır.

Şerif Saylan evli ve iki çocuk babasıdır.

Serif Saylan 28 Kasım 2006 tarihinde Cumhurbaşkanı Ahmet Necdet Sezer tarafından 4 yıllığına Balıkesir Üniversitesi Rektörü olarak görevlendirildi. 20.10.2015'te fakultedeki odasinda kalp krizi gecirerek öldü.
