Ang Ara ay labinlimang species ng mga ibon sa pamilya Psittacidae, pito sa mga ito ay wala na. Ang mga kinatawan ng genus na ito ay malaki, hanggang sa maximum na 1 metro, na may napakakulay na balahibo. Mahaba ang buntot, mahaba at matulis ang mga pakpak. Ang tuka ng lahat ng mga species ay hubog, malaki at napakalakas. Ang genus na ito ay ipinamamahagi sa Gitnang at Timog America sa mga tropikal na kagubatan.
Pamumuhay
Ang mga Ara ay nakatira sa mga kawan at naninirahan sa mga lugar kung saan lumalaki ang kagubatan. Dumadagundong din sila sa mga taniman at nagdudulot ng pinsala sa mga pananim.
