หลังเหตุระเบิดสถานทูตสหรัฐในเคนยาและแทนซาเนีย^[33] ประธานาธิบดีบิล คลินตันแห่งสหรัฐเปิดฉากปฏิบัติการอินฟินิทรีช (Operation Infinite Reach) การทัพทิ้งระเบิดในซูดานและอัฟกานิสถานต่อเป้าหมายที่สหรัฐยืนยันว่าเกี่ยวข้องกับ WIFJAJC^[34][35] แต่ประเทศอื่นตั้งคำถามว่า โรงงานผลิตยาในซูดานถูกใช้เป็นโรงงานการสงครามเคมีหรือไม่ โรงงานดังกล่าวผลิตยาต้านมาลาเรียในภูมิภาคเป็นจำนวนมาก^[36] และราว 50% ของความต้องการยาในซูดาน^[37] การโจมตีดังกล่าวไม่สามารถสังหารผู้นำ WIFJAJC หรือฏอลิบานได้แม้แต่คนเดียว^[36]
