คราวน์โคโลนี

คราวน์โคโลนี (อังกฤษ: Crown colony) หรือ อาณานิคมในพระองค์ เป็นประเภทหนึ่งของการบริการอาณานิคมของจักรวรรดิอังกฤษ[1][2]

คราวน์โคโลนีถูกปกครองโดยข้าหลวงซึ่งได้รับการแต่งตั้งโดยพระมหากษัตริย์อังกฤษ (และ ในภายหลัง รัฐมนตรีว่าการอาณานิคม)[3] ถึงแม้ว่าคำดังกล่าวจะไม่ถูกใช้ตั้งแต่แรกก็ตาม อาณานิคมแห่งแรกซึ่งเป็นที่รู้จักกันว่าคราวน์โคโลนี คือ อาณานิคมเวอร์จิเนีย ในสหรัฐอเมริกาปัจจุบัน ในภายหลังจึงได้ถูกควบคุมโดยบริษัทเวอร์จิเนีย ในปี ค.ศ. 1624[4]

จนกระทั่งกลางคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 19 คำดังกล่าวมักจะหมายถึงอาณานิคมซึ่งอังกฤษได้มาจากสงคราม อย่างเช่น ตรินิแดด[5] และบริติชกินี แต่หลังจากจุดนี้ คราวน์โคโลนีได้มีการใช้อย่างแพร่หลายโดยหมายความถึงอาณานิคมใด ๆ ก็ตามที่ไม่ใช่บริติชราช และอาณานิคมซึ่งเป็นถิ่นฐานของอังกฤษ อย่างเช่น ออสเตรเลีย แคนาดา และนิวซีแลนด์ ซึ่งในภายหลังกลายมาเป็นดินแดนในปกครอง[6]

คำดังกล่าวได้มีการใช้เรื่อยมาจนกระทั่ง ค.ศ. 1981 เมื่อพระราชบัญญัติสัญชาติอังกฤษ ค.ศ. 1981 จัดระดับอาณานิคมอังกฤษที่เหลืออยู่เป็น "ดินแดนขึ้นกับอังกฤษ" และนับตั้งแต่ ค.ศ. 2002 เป็นต้นมา อาณานิคมเหล่านี้ได้เป็นที่รู้จักกันว่า อาณานิคมโพ้นทะเลของสหราชอาณาจักร

ประเภทของคราวน์โคโลนี

คราวน์โคโลนีสามารถแบ่งออกได้เป็น 3 ประเภท ในปี ค.ศ. 1918 โดยแตกต่างกันในระดับของอิสรภาพในการปกครองตนเอง คราวน์โคโลนีที่มีสภาผู้แทนราษฎร เช่น เบอร์มิวดา จาไมกา ศรีลังกา และ ฟิจิ ซึ่งมีสภานิติบัญญัติ 1-2 สภา ซึ่งประกอบด้วยสมาชิกซึ่งได้รับการแต่งตั้งโดยพระมหากษัตริย์หรือได้รับเลือกมาจากท้องถิ่น อาณานิคมเหล่าที่มีสภาซึ่งสมาชิกได้มาจากการเสนอชื่อ อย่างเช่น บริติชฮอนดูรัส เซียร์ราลีโอน เกรนาดา และ ฮ่องกง ซึ่งสมาชิกสภาทั้งหมดได้รับเลือกจากพระมหากษัตริย์ โดยบางส่วนได้รับแต่งตั้งผู้แทนจากประชาชนท้องถิ่น คราวน์โคโลนีประเภทที่สาม ซึ่งมีจำนวนน้อยที่สุด คือ อาณานิคมซึ่งปกครองโดยข้าหลวงโดยตรง อย่างเช่น บาซูโตแลนด์[7] ยิบรอลตาร์ เซนต์เฮเลนา และ สิงคโปร์
