ผู้สังเกตการณ์ทางทหารแห่งสหประชาชาติ (อังกฤษ: United Nations Military Observer: UNMO) คือนายทหารที่สหประชาชาติส่งไปเพื่อสนับสนุนภารกิจของสหประชาชาติหรือปฏิบัติการสันติภาพ ผู้สังเกตการณ์ซึ่งเรียกกันว่า "หูและตา" ของคณะมนตรีความมั่นคงแห่งสหประชาชาติ ทำหน้าที่ต่าง ๆ มากมาย ขึ้นอยู่กับขอบเขต วัตถุประสงค์ และสถานะของคณะผู้แทนสหประชาชาติที่ตนสังกัดอยู่[1] โดยทั่วไปแล้ว ผู้สังเกตการณ์ทางทหารแห่งสหประชาชาติ (UNMO) มีหน้าที่ติดตามและประเมินข้อตกลงหลังความขัดแย้ง เช่น การหยุดยิงหรือการสงบศึก การถอนกำลังทหาร หรือการรักษาเขตกันชนที่เป็นกลาง[2] ผู้สังเกตการณ์มักจะได้รับการฝึกอบรมพิเศษเพื่อให้แน่ใจว่ามีความเป็นกลาง การทูต และเทคนิคการลดระดับความรุนแรง[2]

  • ลาดตระเวนเขตปลอดทหาร
  • ช่วยแก้ไขปัญหาในท้องถิ่น (สังคม เศรษฐกิจ ฯลฯ) โดยประสานงานกับทุกฝ่ายที่ขัดแย้ง
  • สอบสวนข้อกล่าวหาเรื่องการรุกรานหรือละเมิดการหยุดยิง[3]

คณะผู้แทนในกัศมีร์

เป็นคณะผู้แทนสังเกตการณ์ในช่วงแรกและยังคงปฏิบัติงานอยู่ คือ คณะผู้แทนสังเกตการณ์ทางทหารของสหประชาชาติในอินเดียและปากีสถาน (UNMOGIP) ซึ่งก่อตั้งขึ้นที่ชายแดนอินเดีย-ปากีสถานในปี พ.ศ. 2492 เพื่อติดตามการหยุดยิงที่คณะมนตรีความมั่นคงแห่งสหประชาชาติเรียกร้อง[4][5][6][7]
