Neo-progressive rock

Neo-progressive rock (ose Neo-prog) është nën-zhanër i progressive rock-ut, i zhvilluar dhe i formuar në vitet e 80-ta, megjithëse ekziston edhe sot e kësaj dite.

Neo-progressive rock-u karakterizohet me përmbajtje të thellë emocionale, tekste dramatike dhe paraqitje jo të zakonshme në skenat e performimit. Muzika në të shumtën e rasteve është produkt i kompozimit të kujdesshëm, dhe mbështetet më pak në luajtje të improvizuara. Neo-progressive rock-u mbështetet shumë në solot e pastra, melodike dhe emocionale të kitarës elektrike, kombinuar me zërat modern, të bukur, të rrjedhshëm dhe atmosferik të tastierës. Bendet që kanë influencuar më së shumti këtë zhanër janë Genesis, Yes, Camel, dhe Pink Floyd.

Marillion, themeluesit dhe bendi më i popullarizuar i neo-progressive rock-ut

Neo-progressive rock-u i hershëm karakterizohej nga tekste të sofistikuara dhe zakonisht tema të zymta. Edhepse mundësia e përfshirjes së neo-prog-ut në rrymën qëndrore të rock-ut është e diskutueshme, prapseprapë ky zhanër u duk se është më radio-miqësor, me këngë më të shkurtra se progressive rock-u i hershëm. Megjithatë, neo-progressive rock-u kurrë nuk fitoi aq sukses dhe famë sa bendet e progressive rock-ut, rasti konkret sa bendi Yes.
