Princíp činnosti

Šesťvalcový radový motor alebo radový šesťvalec alebo R6 je typ spaľovacieho motora so šiestimi valcami usporiadanými pozdĺž kľukového hriadeľa v rade. Tento systém je najjednoduchšou voľbou pre poskytovanie stabilného a rovnomerného chodu motora – nie je tam žiadna potreba vyvažovania hriadeľa.[1] Kľukový hriadeľ je zvyčajne na štyroch alebo siedmich ložiskách.

Motory typu R6, ktoré sa montujú do osobných automobilov majú zdvihový objem od 1,9 do 5,0 L.[2] Obyčajne sa používajú v automobiloch strednej a vyššej strednej triedy a tiež v luxusných automobiloch.

V nákladných automobiloch a autobusoch sa používajú najmä vznetové motory so zdvihovým objemom až do 12 000 cm³ (12 litrov) a prepĺňaním. Radový 6 valcový motor používali napr. autobusy Škoda a Karosa a nákladné automobily Praga V3S, Škoda 706 alebo LIAZ.
