Cena Grammy za najlepší inštrumentálny rockový výkon (angl. Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance) bolo ocenenie udeľované umelcom za kvalitné inštrumentálne rockové vystúpenie.^[1] Cenu udeľovala organizácia The Recording Academy v USA s cieľom „uctiť si umelecký počin, technickú odbornosť a celkovú kvalitu v hudobnom priemysle, bez ohľadu na výšku predaja a polohu v hudobných rebríčkoch“.^[2] Prvýkrát si cenu prevzal na 22. ročníku udeľovania cien Grammy v roku 1980 za skladbu „Rockestra Theme“ Paul McCartney so skupinou Wings. V rokoch 1986 – 1989, medzi 28.-31. ročníkom udeľovania cien, bolo ocenenie známe pod názvom „Best Rock Instrumental Performance (Orchestra, Group or Soloist)“. Podľa definície pre 52. ročník cien Grammy, je cena udeľovaná umelcom za „nové rockové, hardrockové, alebo metalové inštrumentálne nahrávky“.^[3]

Do roku 2011 mal najviac, t.j. šesť, ocenení Jeff Beck, trikrát získal cenu Sting, z toho dve ceny mal ako člen kapely The Police. Po dve ceny majú aj: Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana (raz ako člen skupiny Santana), The Flaming Lips, Steve Vai a bratia Jimmie Vaughan a Stevie Ray Vaughan (obidvaja po jednom raze ako časť dua Vaughan Brothers). V roku 2009 na 51. ročníku, v rámci projektu Zappa Plays Zappa (lídrom bol syn Franka Zappu, Dweezil), dostala cenu Frankova skladba „Peaches en Regalia“.^[4] Dweezil a Frank, obaja dostali niekoľko nominácií a dokonca súťažili spolu v roku 1988 na 30. ročníku o cenu súperili. Joe Satriani je rekordmanom so svojim počtom štrnástich nominácií. V roku 2012 v rámci reorganizácie cien Grammy došlo k zrušeniu tohto ocenenia. Všetky inštrumentálne nahrávky v rockovej kategórie sa dostali do novovzniknutých cien za Najlepší rockový výkon, alebo ceny za najlepší metalový/ hard rockový výkon
