Copyrights are very important on Wikipedia. Only "public domain" or free resources that aren't copyrighted can be copied word for word. When we say "public domain", this does not include most websites, and copyrighted information must be removed.

Detecting a copyright violation can be very difficult, but there's a few things you can do:

  • Look at the page. If parts or all of it have no wiki-formatting, it could have been copied and pasted from another website.
  • Does the writing style seem appropriate for this article? Does it have lots of biased statements?
  • Use a search engine. Find a small chunk of text that seems unique to this text. Search for that phrase in a search engine and see if the article text matches any results.

If you suspect the article has a copyright violation, place the {{copyvio}} tag on the page, including the URL you think the text was copied from.

Example: {{copyvio|url=http://www.copyviohere.com/copyvio.htm}}
