Lake Country is a district municipality in the province of British Columbia, Canada. It is located in the Okanagan Valley region and is in the Central Okanagan regional district.
The population of Lake Country was 15,817 as reported by the 2021 Canadian census.[1] The mayor of Lake Country is Blair Ireland.[2] Lake Country is known for it vineyards and winemaking. Sightseeing along the forests and mountains are also popular activities for visitors.[3]
Lake Country has a ward system is the only municipality in British Columbia to use the system. The wards for Lake Country are Okanagan Centre, Carr's Landing, Oyama, and Winfield.[4]
Before Europeans arrived, Syilx peoples settled in the area.[5] In 1995, Oyama, Winfield, Okanagan Centre, and Carr’s Landing all merged together to become the District of Lake Country.[6]
