Jared McCann (born May 31, 1996) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward. He currently plays for the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for the Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Career

Before playing in the NHL, McCann played three seasons with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He was invited to play in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and was also named to the Second All-Rookie Team.[1][2]

He was drafted 24th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2014 NHL entry draft. On July 24, 2014, McCann signed a three-year, $2.77 million entry-level contract to join the Canucks.[3] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Chicago Wolves. On October 7, 2015, McCann made his NHL debut in a 5–1 win against the Calgary Flames. Three days later on October 10, McCann scored his first NHL goal against Jonas Hiller in a 3–2 overtime loss to the Calgary Flames.[4]

On May 25, 2016, the Canucks traded McCann along with a 2016 second- and fourth-round draft picks to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Erik Gudbranson and the New York Islanders' 2016 fifth-round draft pick which the Panthers held.[5] On July 1, 2018, McCann signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract to stay with the Panthers.[6] He played parts of three seasons with the Panthers.

On February 1, 2019, the Panthers traded McCann along with Nick Bjugstad to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Derick Brassard, Riley Sheahan, and a 2019 second-round, fourth-round and the Minnesota Wild's fourth-round draft pick which the Penguins held.[7] He played parts of three seasons with the Penguins.

On July 17, 2021, the Penguins traded McCann to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Filip Hållander and a 2023 seventh-round draft pick.[8] He did not end up playing a game for the Maple Leafs. On August 6, 2021, the Leafs left McCann unprotected and he was selected by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 NHL expansion draft.[9] On March 8, 2022, McCann signed a five-year, $5.5 million contract to stay with the Kraken.[10]
