James Lemuel Holloway III (February 23, 1922 – November 26, 2019) was a United States Navy admiral and naval aviator. He served during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was Chief of Naval Operations from 1974 to 1978.
After retiring from the Navy, Holloway was President of the Naval Historical Foundation from 1980 to 1998 and was its chairman until his retirement in 2008 when he became chairman emeritus.
He was the author of Aircraft Carriers at War: A Personal Retrospective of Korea, Vietnam, and the Soviet Confrontation published in 2007 by the Naval Institute Press.
Holloway died on November 26, 2019 in Alexandria, Virginia at the age of 97.[1]
