James Earl Carter (September 12, 1894 – July 22, 1953) was an American politician, businessman, and farmer. He was from Plains, Georgia. He was the father of Jimmy Carter.
Carter was a conservative in his political views.
Carter, Sr. was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1953, as a Democrat, and served briefly representing Sumter County until his death later that year.[1] Carter had previously served on the Sumter County Board of Education.[2][3][4]
