Cale Fleury (born November 19, 1998) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He currently plays for the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for the Montreal Canadiens.
Career
Before playing in the NHL, Fleury played four seasons with the Kootenay Ice and one season with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He had a successful time with his teams. He helped the Pats during the Memorial Cup which they hosted that year. They were eventually defeated by the Acadie–Bathurst Titan from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) 3–0 in the championship game.[1]
He was drafted 87th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2017 NHL entry draft.[2] On October 4, 2018, Fleury signed a three-year entry-level contract to join the Canadiens.[3] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Laval Rocket.
On October 3, 2019, the Habs called him up and Fleury made his NHL debut in a 4–3 shootout loss against the Carolina Hurricanes. His debut was also against his brother Haydn's team.[4] On November 16, Fleury scored his first goal against Mackenzie Blackwood in a 4–3 overtime loss against the New Jersey Devils.[5]
On July 21, 2021, the Canadiens left Fleury unprotected in the 2021 NHL expansion draft and he was selected by the Seattle Kraken.[6] On August 30, 2022, Fleury signed a two-year, $750,000 contract to stay with the Kraken.[7] On July 9, 2023, Fleury signed a two-year, $1.6 million contract to stay with the Kraken.[8] On June 20, 2025, Fleury signed a two-year, $890,000 contract to stay with the Kraken.[9]
Personal life
Fleury's older brother Haydn Fleury is also a professional hockey player who plays for the Winnipeg Jets.[10]
