Benedict Scharner (* 12 April 2005 in Bergen, Norway) is an Austrian football player. He plays as midfielder for the Austrian Second League club FC Liefering.

Career

Scharner began his career at SV Wienerwald. In February 2018, he moved to the youth academy of SK Rapid Wien. Then he joined the AKA St. Pölten, where he progressed through all age groups over the next four years.

For the 2022/23 season, he moved to second-division side SKN St. Pölten. [1] He made his debut in the second division in July 2022 against SK Rapid Wien II. In that match he also scored his first professional goal. In total, Scharner made 29 second-division appearances for SKN.

In August 2024, Scharner moved to Italy to play for the under-19 team of Hellas Verona. After a season in Italy, he returned to Austria . He moved to second division club FC Liefering. [2]

International

Scharner first played for an Austrian youth national team in October 2019. In September 2021, he made his debut for the U-17 national team against Denmark. In September 2022, he debuted for the U-18 team against Sweden. Between 2023 and 2024 he made six appearances for Austria's U-19 national team during the qualification for the 2024 UEFA European Under-19 Championship. [3]

Personal life

Benedict Scharner is the son of former Austrian national player Paul Scharner. His brothers Constantin (* 2003) and Paul (* 2008) are also football players.
