On October 6, 2018, at approximately 19:11, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck 19 km northwest of Port-de-Paix, Haiti.^[2] The earthquake killed at least 12 people, and shaking was felt as far away as Port-au-Prince.^[3]

The earthquake was the strongest to hit Haiti since January 12, 2010.^[4]
