The song was released as a single in the United States in June 1965. The song is on the American version of the album Out of Our Heads. "Satisfaction" was the band's first number one single in the US. The song was released as a single much later in the United Kingdom. This was because the song was considered to be too sexual. It was later the band's fourth number one song in the UK.
