Pozicija Tape u Estoniji

Tapa (njemački: Taps) je grad od 5,168 stanovnika[2] na sjeveru Estonije u Okrugu Lääne-Viru.[1]

Geografske karakteristike

Grad se prostire u morenskoj dolini rijeke Valgejõgi, na zapadnoj granici Okruga Lääne-Viru, udaljen 77 km od Tallinna i 32 km od svog administrativnog centra Rakverea.[1]

Tapa je važno raskršće željezničkih pruga; Tallinn-Narva (zapad -istok) i Tallinn-Tartu -Valga (sjever -jug)[3] Kroz grad prolazi cesta Rakvere - Paide - Pärnu.[1]

Tapa je dugo bio grad željezničara i vojnika, tako da se broj stanovnika prepolovio nakon odlaska sovjetskih trupa 1990 -ih, od 10 439 1989. na današnjih 5,168, iako i danas oko 40% stanovnika nisu Estonci.[1]

Historija

Tapa je prvi put dokumentirana 1482. kao selo Tappes, nakon tog 1629. kao feud Taps.[1]

Prekretnica u životu tog sela bila je 1870. kad je podignuta mala željeznička stanica na terenu feuda Taps. Nakon tog je Tapa postala raskršće željezničkih pruga kad je 1876. izgrađen krak Baltičke željeznice do Tartua, tad je uz nju se uskoro formiralo i naselje. Tapa je 1919. dobila gimnaziju a do 1922. nakupila 2 398 stanovnika tako da je 1926. dobila status grada.[1]

Ruska vojska koristila je teren bivšeg feuda Taps (južno i zapadno od grada) za vojnu bazu sve do 1993.[1]

Privreda

Sve do kraja Estonske Sovjetske Socijalističke Republike ekonomija grada bila je vezana uz željeznicu i vojsku.[1]

Danas su pored željeznice najveći poslodavci firma Universal Industries Ltd (automobilski dijelovi), drvoprerađivačka firma Tapa Tapa Mill OÜ Wood i prehrambena firma Tapa AS Hallik.[1]

Pored tog Tapa je i danas veliki garnizon, centar sjeveroistočne vojne oblasti Estonskih obrambenih snaga (Kirde Kaitseringkond). Tapa je i važan tranzitni centar za rusku naftu i drvo.[3]
