Эуглоссы[1] (лат. Euglossa[2]) — род пчёл, из трибы Euglossini семейства Apidae.

Распространение

Неотропика: от Мексики до Аргентины[3] Летом 2003 года впервые обнаружены в Северной Америке: вид Euglossa viridissima Friese, 1899 найден в США (Флорида; Fort Lauderdale (26°08’N, 80°08’W).[4]. В ископаемом состоянии известны из миоценового доминиканского янтаря[5]

Описание

Яркоокрашенные пчёлы: зелёные, синие, золотистые с металлическим отливом. В процессе сбора ароматических веществ с орхидей самцы эуглосс могут преодолевать расстояния свыше 50 км[6].

Известно около 100 видов[7].
