Рик Ру́бин (англ. Rick Rubin; настоящее имя — Фредерик Джей Рубин, Frederick Jay Rubin; род. 10 марта 1963, Лонг-Бич, Нью-Йорк) — американский музыкальный продюсер и аранжировщик, признанный MTV «самым влиятельным продюсером последних двадцати лет»[1]; был признан журналом Time одним из ста самых влиятельных людей мира[2]. Также бывший сопрезидент Columbia Records[3]. Неоднократный обладатель премий «Грэмми»[4].

Наряду с Расселом Симмонсом Рубин является одним из основателей Def Jam Recordings, а также основал American Recordings[5]. С Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Public Enemy и Run DMC, Рубин способствовал популяризации хип-хоп музыки и внёс ощутимый вклад в этот жанр[6]. Он долгое время работал в качестве «серого кардинала» первой белой команды хип-хопа — Beastie Boys. Исповедуя достаточно оригинальный для того времени подход, он стремился к скрещению хип-хопа с хард-роком. Именно он свёл хип-хоп-гуру Run DMC с рокерами Aerosmith для записи сингла «Walk This Way», который стал в 1986 году крупным коммерческим прорывом для обеих команд и тех музыкальных направлений, которые они представляли.

Кроме того Рик был одним из создателей нового жанра ню-метал, ставшего очень популярным, сотрудничая с Linkin Park, System of a Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slipknot. В 2006 году Рик Рубин работал с U2 над альбомом, который был запланирован к выходу в следующем году. Но, выпустив 2 сингла, они прекратили сотрудничество. На вышедшем в 2009 году альбоме No Line on the Horizon материалы сессий под руководством Рика Рубина не использовались[7].

Кроме того, в 2007 году Рубин работал с группой Linkin Park над альбомом Minutes to Midnight. Группе так понравилось работать с ним, что вместе они записали ещё один альбом — A Thousand Suns, который вышел в 2010 году, а также Living Things, вышедший в 2012 году.

Ранние годы
