Реки Португалии образуют относительно густую сеть. На территории страны расположены низовья крупнейших рек Пиренейского полуострова — Дору (Дуэро), Тежу (Тахо) и Гвадианы. Питание рек главным образом дождевое. Реки характеризуются подъемом уровня воды в зимнее и весеннее время, и снижением уровня в летний период. В горной местности реки протекают в узких глубоких долинах, имеют крутое падение и обладают большими запасами гидроэнергии. На равнинных местностях широко используются для орошения[1].
