Środkowy (koszykówka)

Walczący pod koszem zawodnicy, w tym atakujący center Marcin Gortat

Center, środkowy (C, 5)[1][2][3][4] – zawodnik w koszykówce, którego głównym zadaniem jest zdobywanie punktów spod kosza, zbieranie piłek z tablicy i blokowanie rzutów przeciwników[5][2][6][4]. Gra głównie pod koszem[7][1][2][3][4]. Centrami zostają najwyżsi i najsilniejsi gracze w drużynie[4][5][8][1][2][3][6]. Raczej nie wykonuje rzutów z półdystansu, ani tym bardziej rzutów za 3 punkty[1]. Bardzo często wykonują dobitki[1]. Jego bardzo ważną rolą jest zatrzymywanie swym ciałem rozpędzonych przeciwników, poprzez stawianie bardzo silnych zasłon[7][3].

W obronie, główną rolą środkowego, jest bronienie kosza, blokowanie przeciwników, blokowanie rzutów oraz wykonywanie zbiórek po niecelnych rzutach przeciwników[1][2][3].

Znani centrzy: Shaquille O’Neal, Joel Embiid, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell[1]. Znanym na świecie Polakiem grającym na pozycji środkowego jest np. Marcin Gortat[3][4]. W Polsce znanym koszykarzem na tej pozycji jest też Przemysław Karnowski[4].
