Norges Bank på Commons

Norges Bank i Stavanger ligger på Domkirkeplassen 3. Bygget, som er tegnet av arkitekt Louis Kloster, ble tatt i bruk i 1964. Det ble tildelt A.C. Houens arkitektpris i 1975. Bygget ble også kåret som ett av Morgenbladets 12 viktigste byggverk fra etterkrigstiden. Begrunnelsen for dette var:

«Norges Bank i Stavanger er et av 1960-tallsarkitekturens høydepunkter. Sober og distingvert fremtrer fasaden nærmest som et modernistisk, tredelt renessansepalass i glass og stål. Tidløs internasjonal modernisme inspirert av Ludwig Mies van der Rohes arkitektur er kombinert med rustikk, håndmeislet betong slik at bygningen fremstår som både kontinental og nasjonal»

Historie

Bygningen ble oppført som avdelingskontor for Norges Bank og ble brukt som dette til kontoret ble nedlagt i 2002.Etter at avdelingskontoret ble nedlagt, holdt Norsk Kontantservice (NOKAS) til i bygget frem til de flyttet til eget bygg på Gausel i 2007. Den 2. april 2004 kjøpte Stavanger kommune bygget for 29 millioner kroner; i tillegg brukte kommunen ca. 24 millioner kroner til å pusse opp bygget som var hovedkvarter for kulturhovedstadsåret 2008. Allerede samme år flyttet informasjonskontoret for Stavanger 2008[1] inn her og senere er bygget brukt til Turistinformasjonen. I 2017 ble bygget solgt til Camar Eiendom AS og er nå innredet til serverings- og kontorlokaler.

NOKAS-ranet

Bankbygget var åsted for NOKAS-ranet 5. april 2004. NOKAS-lokalet var i byggets kjeller med inngang fra bakgården og det tidligere banklokalet ble ikke skadet under ranet.

NOKAS-ranet forgikk i tellesentralen til Norsk Kontantservice (NOKAS) i kjelleren på dette bygget den 5. april 2004, ca. klokken 08.00. Gjerningsmennene kom unna med 57,4 millioner kroner i ransutbytte, hvilket gjør dette til norgeshistoriens største ran. Det ble avfyrt en rekke skudd mot politiet og politiets biler. Politiførstebetjent Arne Sigve Klungland ble skutt og drept i denne skuddvekslingen.
