Høgskulen i Volda på Commons

Høgskulen i Volda (HVO) er en norsk statlig høgskole som ble etablert 1. august 1994. Per 2024 har høyskolen omkring 4 600 studenter og 350 ansatte.[2]

HVO ble etablert som ledd i Høgskolereformen i 1994, da de to statlige høgskolene Møre og Romsdal distriktshøgskole Volda og Volda lærarhøgskule ble slått sammen.

Høgskolen tilbyr fag- og profesjonsstudier innen lærerutdanning, humanistiske fag, mediefag og samfunnsfag. Disse kan tas i varierende lengder fra halvårsenheter til bachelorgrader, mastergrader og doktorgradsstudier, samt en rekke kurs-, etter- og videreutdanninger.

Høgskolen tilbyr internasjonalisering av studier, og studentene har mulighet for å ta deler av sin ordinære utdanning i utlandet ved et av høgskolens partneruniversitet.

Den Norske Dokumentarfilmfestivalen

Den Norske Dokumentarfilmfestivalen startet i 1997 med nærmere to tusen besøkende, og er Norges eldste dokumentarfilmfestival. Filmene som vises er en blanding av studentproduksjoner og filmer skapt av profesjonelle filmskapere i Norge og utlandet. Hovedformålet med festivalen er filmvisninger, men man kan også møte andre filminteresserte studenter og etablerte filmfolk fra bransjen til sosiale og faglige aktiviteter. Blant festivalens faste innslag er programpostene «Pitchetevling», «Filmquiz» og «Laurdagsfesten».

Studentliv

Studentmediene «Knaggen»

Består av Studentradioen, Peikestokken og Student-TV. Hvert semester arrangeres Knaggen-prisen på Rokken der de beste bidragene til studentmediene innenfor et bredt spekter med kategorier blir kåret.

Studentradioen i Volda

Studentradioen i Volda er en studentradio-kanal som drives av studenter ved Høgskulen i Volda. Kanalen har eget studio ved høyskolen, og har sendinger over internett.[3]

Studentavisa «Peikestokken»

«Peikestokken» er studentavisa ved høgskolen. Den gis ut tre ganger hvert semester, og skal avspeile studentlivet i Volda, samt dekke andre saker som er viktige for studentene.[4]

Student-TV

Volda student-TV er studentenes selvdrevne TV-kanal. Det er tre redaksjoner i student-tv. Kultur, sport&nyheter og underholdning. Videoen publiseres på Student-TVs egen youtube-side. De har ingen faste sendinger, men publiserer videoer hver tirsdag og torsdag i semesteret. Daglig leder for 2024 er Elias Melkor Øien Eiksund.

Studenthuset Rokken

Studenthuset blei etablert av Studentsamskipnaden i Volda i 2005, som et tilbud for studentene ved høgskolen. Siden har huset i stor grad vært drevet av studenter på frivillig basis. Rokken har blitt til et viktig sosialt samlingssted for studentene på kveldstid, ved blant annet ved å arrangere kviss hver onsdag og open mic på torsdager. Rokken har også en konsertscene.[5]
