Јавно/приватно

Под дистинкцијата јавно/приватно популарно се подразбира поделба на работата и домот во поединечниот живот. Со слоганот „личното е политичко”, современите женски движења го поврзуваат јавното и приватното. Слоганот го редефинира личното искуство како социјален процес, производ на човековата активност.

Социјалистичките феминисти истакнуваат дека дистинкцијата јавно/приватно е нормативна и во 19 век служела за да се рационализира експлоатацијата на жените. Тие сметаат дека таа мора да биде укината за да не продолжи идеологијата на машката доминација. Феминистичката антропологија тврди дека во сите култури жените се сместуваат во домашната сфера, а мажите во јавната арена. Според Мишел Росалдо, постои директна врска меѓу степенот на подреденост на жените во дадено општество и степенот на одвоеност на подрачјата на јавното и приватното. Таа, како и Бовоар, смета дека сместувањето на жените во приватната сфера е производ на биологијата. Радикалниот феминизам не ја признава дистинкцијата меѓу јавните и приватните релации. Дистинкцијата јавно/приватно ја сметаат за лажна дихотомија, бидејќи, личните, социјалните и историските искуствата на жените се производ на симултано меѓудејство на социјалната активност, работата и полот.[1]
