Полусамогласка е глас како македонското j или англиското w што е фонетски сличен со самогласен глас но игра улога на граница наместо јадро на слогот.[1]

Класификација

Полусамогласките сочинуваат поткласа на приближни согласки.[2][3] Иако поимите понекогаш се сметаат за синонимни,[4] не сите приближни согласки се полусамогласки. На пример, Ladefoged & Maddieson (1996)

Во Меѓународната фонетска азбука, дијакритичкиот знак што се приложува кон неслоговни самогласни букви е ⟨  ̯  ⟩ (U+032F  ̯ придружно превртено подредно ченгелче)[5]. Покрај ова, постојат наменски букви за четири полусамогласки што соодветствуваат на четирите затворени главни самогласни гласови:[3]

[ɥ] (уснено-преднонепчена приближна согласка) [y] (затворена предна заоблена самогласка)

[w] (усненозаднонепчена приближна согласка) [u] (затворена задна заоблена самогласка)

Голтничката приближна согласка [ʕ̞] исто така е истоветна на полусамогласната творба на отворената задна незаоблена самогласка [ɑ̯].[6]

Покрај ова, некои автори[7][8] ги сметаат вевните приближни согласки [ɹ], [ɻ ] за полусамогласки соодветни на еризираните самогласки како [ɚ].
