Etimologia
Il nome del genere è un omaggio a Emanuel Sweert (1552–1612), un giardiniere e illustratore botanico olandese, autore di un Florilegium nei primi anni del diciassettesimo secolo[2].
Distribuzione e habitat
Il genere è diffuso soprattutto nelle zone temperate di Asia ed Africa, e con poche specie in Europa e Nord America.[1][3]
