מצר ביסמרק (באנגלית: Bismarck Strait) הוא מצר ים בין ארכיפלג וילהם וארכיפלג פאלמר שבאנטארקטיקה[1][2].

המצר ממוקם בקצה הדרומי של האיים אונוור ווינצקה[1] (איים אלה הם הקצה הדרומי של ארכיפלג פאלמר).

היסטוריה

גילוי המצר

המצר התגלה[3] על ידי ג'ון ביסקו ב-16 בפברואר 1873[2].

הראשונים שמיפו את המצר היו אנשי המשלחת גרמנית אשר חקרה את אנטארקטיקה בעונת המחקר (הקיץ האנטארקטי) 1873–1874[2], בפיקודו של אדוארד דלמן (Eduard Dallmann)[1][2], אשר חצו את המצר מכיוון מערב למזרח בינואר 1874[2].

המצר מופה מחדש על ידי יחידת הסקר ההידרוגרפי של הצי המלכותי הבריטי בין השנים 1956–1958[2].

מקור השם

דלמן נתן למצר את שמו[1] בינואר 1874[2].

דלמן קרא למצר על שם אוטו פון ביסמרק[1][2], מדינאי גרמני[1][2].
