להקת האופרה הקנדית היא להקת אופרה היושבת דרך קבע בטורונטו שבנפת אונטריו. זו היא להקת האופרה הגדולה ביותר בקנדה והשישית בגודלה בצפון אמריקה. משכנה הקבוע הוא "מרכז ארבע העונות לאמנויות הבמה". במשך 40 שנה, עד אפריל 2006, הופיעה להקת האופרה הקנדית ב"מרכז האמינגברד".

היסטוריה

ניקולס גולדשמידט והרמן גייגר-טורל ייסדו בשנת 1950 את הארגון בשם "להקת האופרה של הקונסרבטוריון המלכותי". גייגר-טורל היה ב-1956 למנהל האמנותי של האופרה וב-1960 למנהלה הכללי. שמה של הלהקה שונה ל"אגודת האופרה הקנדית" ב-1960 ול"להקת האופרה הקנדית" ב-1977. גייגר טורל פרש ממשרת המנהל הכללי בשנת 1976 ואת מקומו תפס לוטפי מנסורי, שכיהן בתפקיד זה מ-1976 עד 1988. בשנת 1983 הוסיפה האופרה הקנדית כתוביות-על (supertitles) להפקותיה, האופרה הראשונה שעשתה שימוש בכתוביות-על בבית אופרה. ההפקות כללו את ההפקה הראשונה של ג'ואן סאת'רלנד, ששרה את "אנה בולנה" של דוניצטי.[1]

בריאן דיקי היה המנהל הכללי של האופרה הקנדית משנת 1988 עד 1993. דיקי מינה את ריצ'רד ברדשואו למנצח הראשי ואחראי על המוזיקה בשנת 1989. איליין קלדר הייתה המנהל הכללית מ-1994 עד 1997. ב-1998 התמנה ברדשואו למנהל הכללי.[2] בתקופת כהונתו השיג ברדשואו מימון למשכן הקבע החדש של האופרה ב"מרכז ארבע העונות.[3] את משכנה החדש ב"מרכז ארבע העונות" חנכה הלהקה במחזור הטבעת של ריכרד וגנר, עם תפאורות של מייקל לווין ו-4 במאים שונים: אטום אגויאן (הוולקירה), טים אלברי דמדומי האלים, פרנסואה ז'יראר (זיגפריד) ומייקל לווין (זהב הריין). ב-2006 חודש החוזה של ברדשואו כמנהל כללי לעוד 10 שנים. ברדשואו מת בהתקף לב פתאומי ב-15 באוגוסט 2007.

ביוני 2008 התמנה אלכסנדר נף למנהל הכללי הבא של האופרה הקנדית ובאוקטובר 2008 נכנס לתפקיד באופן רשמי.[4] באוקטובר 2008 ניצח יוהנס דבוס לראשונה על להקת האופרה הקנדית בהפקה של "מלחמה ושלום" מאת סרגיי פרוקופייב, שזכתה בשבחי הביקורת.[5] בינואר 2009 הודיעה להקת האופרה הקנדית על מינוי יוהנס דבוס למנהל המוזיקלי הבא של הלהקה.[6] החוזה ההתחלתי שלו מקיף ארבע עונות, מעונת 2009–2010 עד עונת 2012–2013.[7]
