הדמוקרטים הדרומיים הם חברים במפלגה הדמוקרטית האמריקאית, המתגוררים בדרום ארצות הברית.

במאה ה-19 הדמוקרטים הדרומיים היו אנשים בדרום שהאמינו בדמוקרטיה ג'קסונית. בשנות ה-50 של המאה ה-19 הם הגנו על העבדות בארצות הברית וקידמו את התפשטותה למערב נגד האופוזיציה הצפונית. לאחר שתקופת השיקום הסתיימה בסוף שנות ה-70 של המאה ה-19, המפלגה הדמוקרטית הייתה הדומיננטית בדרום.

המונופול שהמפלגה הדמוקרטית החזיקה ברוב הדרום החל להסתיים בשנת 1948, כאשר דמוקרטים דרום לבנים רבים, שהיו מוטרדים ממדיניות ההתפלגות שנחקקה במהלך ממשל הנשיא הדמוקרטי הארי טרומן, יצרו את המפלגה הדמוקרטית לזכויות המדינות. מפלגה חדשה זו, המכונה בדרך כלל "דיקסייראטס", מינתה את מושל דרום קרוליינה סטרום ת'ורמונד לנשיאה. המפלגה זכתה ברוב הדרום העמוק, על חשבון טרומן. המפלגה החדשה קרסה לאחר הבחירות, ואילו ת'ורמונד הפך לרפובליקני בשנות השישים.

הנשיא לינדון ג'ונסון, אף שהוא דמוקרט דרומי בעצמו, חתם על חוק זכויות האזרח משנת 1964 ועל חוק זכויות ההצבעה משנת 1965. זה הוביל להתנגדות קשה מצד כלל תושבי הדרום – גם דמוקרטים וגם רפובליקנים. לאחר העברת החקיקה לזכויות האזרח, דרומיים לבנים רבים עברו למפלגה הרפובליקנית. חוקרים רבים טוענים כי הלבנים הדרומיים עברו למפלגה הרפובליקנית עקב שמרנות גזעית.[1][2][3]

בשנים 2000–2010 זכו הרפובליקנים ליתרון מוצק על פני הדמוקרטים ברוב מדינות הדרום.
