תוכן וסגנון כתיבה

ויקיפדיה אינה במה למימוש מלא של הזכות הנעלה של חופש הביטוי. ויקיפדיה איננה אתר שבו כל אחד ואחת יכולים לכתוב את אשר על ליבם. ויקיפדיה היא אנציקלופדיה, ומטרתה להביא מידע שקול ואמין, כזה שראוי לתשומת ליבם של הקוראים. היא אינה מקום להבעת דעות.

תוך הבנת מטרה זו של ויקיפדיה, חופש הביטוי בכתיבת ערכים בוויקיפדיה הוא כמעט מוחלט, למעט הסייגים הבאים:

  1. אין מקום להבעה אישית של דעות. יש מקום, בהקשר הנכון, להצגת דעות שונות הקיימות בציבור בנושא מסוים.
  2. אין לפרסם מידע שקרי, לא נכון, לא אמין או מטעה. עם זאת במקרים שבהם יש סברה הרווחת בציבור גדול, יש להתייחס אליה תוך כדי הסתייגות ראויה, והבהרת מעמדה הקונספירטיבי.
  3. אין לפרסם ערכים שהם איזוטריים באופן קיצוני, ואין סיכוי שיהיה בהם עניין לציבור הרחב.
  4. אין לפרסם חומר המסכן את בריאות הציבור.
  5. אין לפרסם דברי הסתה כנגד אדם או גוף מסוים. כלל זה אינו מונע הצגת קיומה של ביקורת לגיטימית כלפי אותו אדם או גוף.
  6. אין לפרסם חומר המעודד טרור או מסייע לו.
  7. אין לפרסם תמונות או דברי תועבה.
  8. אין לעבור על כללי התנהגות בין חברי הקהילה.

כל הסייגים דלעיל עוסקים בדפי הערכים. בדפי שיחה ודפי משתמש עקרונות 1, 3 ובמידה מסויימת גם 2 פחות ישימים. הכלל האחרון מתייחס בעיקר לדפי שיחה ודפי המשתמש.
