Setúbal[1] é unha cidade de Portugal, capital do distrito de Setúbal, na rexión de Lisboa. Posúe unha superficie de 172,0 km² e a poboación alcanza un total de 123.496 habitantes (2021).[2]

Aínda que se atoparon restos paleolíticos e neolíticos, a cidade foi fundada polos fenicios cara ao ano 1000 aC. A caída do Imperio Romano e a subseguinte crise do comercio marítimo levou á extinción da poboación, que non rexurdiu ata o século XIII. Conquistada polo duque de Alba (1580), a oposición antiespañola foi sempre potente (tumultos de 1588, 1594, 1603, 1628 e 1630) e en 1640 proclamou como rei de Portugal a Xoán IV.

Destaca o seu centro histórico, comprendido entre dúas murallas: unha medieval e outra do século XVI. Neste espazo agrúpanse a maior parte dos monumentos e edificios de interese histórico e artístico, como o Acueduto dos Arcos ou a Catedral de Setúbal.
