Pirataría en Somalia

A pirataría da costa de Somalia é unha ameaza para as embarcacións internacionais dende a segunda fase da Guerra Civil somalí, a comezos do século XXI.[1] Dende 2005, moitas organizacións internacionais expresaron a súa preocupación polo aumento en actos de pirataría.[2][3] A pirataría dificultou a entrega de envíos e aumentou os gastos de transporte, supoñendo uns custos estimados de 6,6$ a 6,9$ mil millóns nun ano en comercio global (2011) segundo "Oceans Beyond Piracy" (OBP).[4] Segundo o Instituto Alemán para a Invetigación Económica (DIW), unha auténtica industria de especuladores tamén xurdiu ó redor da pirataría. Empresas de seguros aumentaron significativamente os seus beneficios dende o comezo dos ataques piratas, xa que as empresas fixeron medrar as taxas en resposta.[5]
