Nasua narica é unha especie de mamífero carnívoro da familia dos prociónidos que habita en Centroamérica e o sector meridional de Norteamérica.[2]

Adoitan habitar nas zonas boscosas (bosque seco e húmido) das Américas en calquera altitude, dende o nivel do mar até 3500 m, dende o sueste de Arizona e Novo México até Ecuador.

Son omnívoros, preferindo pequenos vertebrados, e aliméntanse tamén con froitos, prea, insectos e ovos. Poden subir as árbores con facilidade, utilizando a cola para equilibrarse, pero é máis frecuente que busquen alimento no chan. Os seus depredadores inclúen boas, aves rapaces, félidos, e a especie Eira barbara. Adáptanse doadamente á presenza humana e poden ser domesticados con relativa facilidade.
