Hertha Ayrton

Hertha Ayrton (28. huhtikuuta 1854 – 26. elokuuta 1923) oli brittiläinen fyysikko. Hän opiskeli matematiikkaa Cambridgen yliopistossa, mutta tuohon aikaan naiset eivät voineet suorittaa siellä tutkintoa. Hänestä tuli matematiikan opettaja. Myöhemmin hän perehtyi sähkön ominaisuuksiin ja merenpohjan hiekkaan syntyviin kuvioihin. Hänestä tuli myös aktiivinen naisten äänioikeuden edistäjä. Hänen puolisonsa oli fyysikko William Edward Ayrton.[1]

Ayrton sai Hughes-mitalin vuonna 1906 sähköä ja merenpohjan kuvioita koskevista tutkimuksistaan.[2]
