Kochi (malabareraz: കൊച്ചി), lehen Cochin, Indiako Kerala estatuko hiria da, herrialdearen hego-mendebaldean dagoena. Indiak Arabiako itsasoaren ertzean duen itsas portu garrantzitsuena da[1]. Hiriak 601.574 biztanle ditu (2011[2]) eta metropoli-eremuak 2.117.990[3].

Historia

Antzinatean ere garrantzitsua zen. Indogrekoek, erromatarrek, juduek, arabiarrek eta txinatarrek ezagutzen zuten. 1102. urtean Kochiko Erresumako egoitza bihurtu zen: Arabiako itsasoko erregina esaten zioten hiriari. XIV. mendetik aurrera, espezien salerosketen merkataritzako gune garrantzitsua zen.

1503. urtean, portugaldarrek hartu zuten hiria, eta Portugaldar Indiaren hiriburua izan zen 1530. urtera arte. Orduan Goa ezarri zuten hiriburutzat. Gerora hiria Herbeheretar Inperiokoa (1663tik aurrera), Mysoreko erresumakoa (1777tik aurrera) eta Britainiar Inperiokoa (1814tik aurrera) izan zen. 1947. urtean Indiak independentzia lortu zuenean, Kochi izan zen entitate berrira bere borondatez lotu zen lehenengo lurraldea.
