Giovanni BOTERO (Bene Vagienna, Italio, ĉirkaŭ 1533 - Torino, Italio, 27-a de junio 1617) estis itala pensulo, pastro, poeto, diplomato, kaj politikisto.

Malamiko de Makiavelo, li estis pioniro de la pensaro de Th. R. Malthus (An essay on the principle of population). Lia plej grava verko estas Delle cause della grandezza e magnificenza delle città (Pri la grando de urbo, 1588).

Apartenanta al la itala grupo merkantilista, li publikigis en 1589 la influan verkon Della ragion di stato (Pri la racio de ŝtato).

Li estis el la ordeno de Jezuitoj, sed konfliktis kun tiu kaj estis elpelita en 1580. Poste li estis sekretario de Karlo Boromeo kaj sinsekve de Karlo Emanuelo la 1-a de Savojo kiu sendis lin sekrete al Francio. Ekde 1586 li servis al la kardinalo Frederiko Borromeo (1564-1631), kuzo de lia protektanto. Li estis lia privata instruisto en Romo, kaj poste lia konsilisto kaj sekretario ĝis 1598.
