You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, as you did at Push button click. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. I see a few Deletion debates here for the above article, do you still have the original Article content? Having been to several Push Button Click Productions at Ayr during the 80's I'd certainly be interested in whether we could present it in such a way as to make for a notable article and get it past any potential CFD.

BTW thanks for your recent work on Butlins related articles, as you might tell I'm equally trying to improve Wikipedia's coverage although we really need to get some more secondary source coverage as we are currently too reliant on tertiary sources like Butlinsmemories and Bygonebutlins for our sourcing Stuart.Jamieson (talk) 14:54, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Not sure how I'm supposed to respond to messages on wikipedia so I'll try just typing my response here. I've pretty much given up on the push button click article because I uploaded it several times and it kept getting deleted. As for better sources for Butlin's information you have a good point but I'm not sure where one would find such sources. I did manage to use a couple of references from Butli's own website to back up some of the information I added yesterday but a lot can only really be found on sites like butlinsmemories and bygonebutlins. However if you find any better sources that would be great.

Yes, replying on wikipedia just type your message below the previous one, but start your paragraphs using colons to indent the reply so first reply one colon ":" at the start of each paragraph, reply to that two colons "::", reply to that three colons ":::" and so on. At the end of your reply just add four tildes ~~~~ to attach your signature.

A while back I found this document on Butlin's server. It's heavily slanted towards the past 10 years but contains a lot of good information and a list of other relevant sources. Stuart.Jamieson (talk) 22:54, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sorry I've not been concentrating on Butlin's topics recently, but I turned my attention back to the Billy Butlin article and found something intriguing Three sources:

From the looks of it, Butlin constructed Dovercourt (notable as the location of Hi-de-Hi) and sold holidays there but it was run by Warner. However to absolutely assert this we need further sources on the nature of the "in association with" deal. That would probably explain why the chalets seen on "Hi de Hi" look so much like the ones at Butlin's! Very interesting news indeed. I do know someone who might have more knowledge of this than me. Rocky Mason was a manager at Butlin's for over 30 years so I will ask him if he knows anything, and if he does have any useful info or other sources he can point us to I'll let you know as soon as possible. To be honest though, after reading the article you linked to, my guess is that whoever wrote that was mistaken in saying Dovercourt camp was built by Butlin's. I think most probably it was built by Warners and operated exclusively by them. The Warners section on butlinsmemories.com states that the camp was aquired by Warners in the 1930s, yet according to the article in your link it was only built about 1937 at the very earliest so it seems unlikely Butlin's would have built it then handed control to one of their competitors within a couple of years. http://www.butlinsmemories.com/warners/camplist.htmPushbutton (talk) 11:38, 19 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

I don't think it's an mistake, the same architect designed Skegness and the records were taken from his collection identifying Butlins Ltd as the client. A History of the Butlin's Railways also claims the existence of a Butlins Dovercourt train ticket. Sources about the 1938 Kindertransport scheme (for which Dovercourt was requisitioned) claim that it ran as a Butlins for 1 season (I presume 37-38) before closing, whilst personal recollections [1] refer to Warners signs in the camp at that time. It is certainly clear that Post-War it was a purely Warner operation, but it is less clear pre-war. Of course the relationship between Warners and Butlins was different at that time with sources reporting Billy as being on the board of Warners at that period and Warner completing construction of Filey for Butlin a few years later. Yes indeed. After a closer review of all this it looks like there absolutely was a connection, probably a very short lived one, between Butlin's and Dovercourt. How odd. On the Butlins Memories site in the Warners section it says it was "aquired by Warners in the 1930s" so it appears it was built by Butlin's prior to that, but Skegness was meant to be the first Butlin's camp and it only opened in 1936, so it begs the question as to when Warners aquired it. I'm receieving emails from several long serving Butlin's managers who worked for the company around that time so once I have collated the info from their answers I'll post again here.Pushbutton (talk) 22:30, 19 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well I didn't get as many responses as I expected to the emails I sent out about this, maybe partly because it's Christmas and people are thinking about that rather than updating wikipedia Butlin's articles like me! However from the responses I did get from some former Butlin's managers they seemed as surprised as me to hear of the connection between Butlin's and Dovercourt, but when I pointed them to the evidence you have listed, they couldn't help but agree that it looks conclusive and indeed Dovercourt must have been built by and operated by Butlin's very briefly. As I said it would explain why the chalets at Dovercourt that were shown on "Hi de Hi" were identical to Butlin's ones. I wonder how many other camps Butlin's was involved in that we maybe still haven't discovered? please consider self reverting your changes and gaining consensus on the talk page. Butlins Website uses the term "Skegness Resort" regularly and prominently. Further their web master has attempted to rename the article and mentions to the Resort name. So claiming that it is not officially called that is not supported by the sources (which you have incidentally removed) Further, please note that where you deleted a note that it was formally known by the apostrophied name claiming that it is wrong to say it was formally known by the unapostrophied name (which would be right if that was the claim you removed.)
