Hello, PresN, and welcome to the 2013 WikiCup! Your submissions' page is here. The first round will last until the end of February, at which point the top 64 scorers will advance to the second round. We will be in touch at the end of every month, and signups are going to remain open until the end of January; if you know of anyone else who may like to take part, please let them know! A few reminders:
Overall, however, don't worry, and have fun. It doesn't matter if you make the odd mistake; these things happen. Questions can be asked on the WikiCup talk page. Good luck! J Milburn and The ed17 13:00, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

This is a note to let the main editors of Bastion (video game) know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on January 30, 2013. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/January 30, 2013. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegates Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), Gimmetoo (talk · contribs), and Bencherlite (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you can change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:
Bastion is an action role-playing video game produced by independent developer Supergiant Games. In the game, the player controls "the Kid" as he moves through floating, fantasy-themed environments collecting special shards of rock to power a structure, the Bastion, in the wake of an apocalyptic event. It features a dynamic voiceover from a narrator, and is presented as a two-dimensional game with an isometric camera and a hand-painted, colorful art style. The game debuted at the September 2010 Penny Arcade Expo, and it went on to be nominated for awards at the 2011 Independent Games Festival and win awards at the Electronic Entertainment Expo prior to release in July 2011. During 2011, the game sold more than 500,000 copies, 200,000 of which were for the Xbox Live Arcade. It was widely praised by reviewers, primarily for its story, art direction, narration, and music, although opinions were mixed on the depth of the gameplay. Bastion has won many nominations and awards since its release, including several for best downloadable game and best music. The soundtrack was produced and composed by Darren Korb, and a soundtrack album was made available for sale in August 2011. (Full article...)

Hi PresN, would you be willing to give the Signpost's featured content section a blurb about one or more exemplary FLCs from 2012, or those which stuck out in your mind or were your favourite? I'm thinking about a hundred words, and in the end it should look a bit like this. Thanks! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:54, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Signups are now closed; we have our final 127 contestants for this year's competition. 64 contestants will make it to the next round at the end of February, but we're already seeing strong scoring compared to previous years. Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) currently leads, with 358 points. At this stage in 2012, the leader ( Grapple X (submissions)) had 342 points, while in 2011, the leader had 228 points. We also have a large number of scorers when compared with this stage in previous years. 12george1 (submissions) was the first competitor to score this year, as he was last year, with a detailed good article review. Some other firsts:
Featured articles, portals and topics, as well as good topics, are yet to feature in the competition.
This year, the bonus points system has been reworked, with bonus points on offer for old articles prepared for did you know, and "multiplier" points reworked to become more linear. For details, please see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. There have been some teething problems as the bot has worked its way around the new system, but issues should mostly be ironed out- please report any problems to the WikiCup talk page. Here are some participants worthy of note with regards to the bonus points:
Also, a quick mention of The C of E (submissions), who may well have already written the oddest article of the WikiCup this year: did you know that the Fucking mayor objected to Fucking Hell on the grounds that there was no Fucking brewery? The gauntlet has been thrown down; can anyone beat it?
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. I know I said this in my reply on the Square Enix project page, but I think I aught to say it here too. I hope you will accept my apologies for my hasty actions with Final Fantasy XIII-2. It was rather stupid on my part. I promise I will be very careful in future about such actions and I will leave your current edits alone. --ProtoDrake (talk) 17:51, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
When you get a chance, could you push this one to start? Round 1 is now over. The top 64 scorers have progressed to round 2, where they have been randomly split into eight pools of eight. At the end of April, the top two from each pool, as well as the 16 highest scorers from those remaining, will progress to round 3. Commiserations to those eliminated; if you're interested in still being involved in the WikiCup, able and willing reviewers will always be needed, and if you're interested in getting involved with other collaborative projects, take a look at the WikiWomen's Month discussed below.
Round 1 saw 21 competitors with over 100 points, which is fantastic; that suggests that this year's competition is going to be highly competative. Our lower scores indicate this, too: A score of 19 was required to reach round 2, which was significantly higher than the 11 points required in 2012 and 8 points required in 2011. The score needed to reach round 3 will be higher, and may depend on pool groupings. In 2011, 41 points secured a round 3 place, while in 2012, 65 was needed. Our top three scorers in round 1 were:
Other contributors of note include:
Featured topics have still played no part in this year's competition, but once again, a curious contribution has been offered by The C of E (submissions): did you know that there is a Shit Brook in Shropshire? With April Fools' Day during the next round, there will probably be a good chance of more unusual articles...
March sees the WikiWomen's History Month, a series of collaborative efforts to aid the women's history WikiProject to coincide with Women's History Month and International Women's Day. A number of WikiCup participants have already started to take part. The project has a to-do list of articles needing work on the topic of women's history. Those interested in helping out with the project can find articles in need of attention there, or, alternatively, add articles to the list. Those interested in collaborating on articles on women's history are also welcome to use the WikiCup talk page to find others willing to lend a helping hand. Another collaboration currently running is an an effort from WikiCup participants to coordinate a number of Easter-themed did you know articles. Contributions are welcome!
A few final administrative issues. From now on, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Well, we are nearly there! I think we should nominate them for deletion, since I cannot find sufficient references for any of them, but I wanted you, we you are available, to take one final look. I don't speak or read Japanese, so if I'm missing something I wanted to check first. Once this is set, the number of stubs should be zero. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 21:43, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
In recognition of your contributions to the Square Enix Wikiproject, for coming up with the Stub project in 2011, for working tirelessly toward the then unimaginable goal (to me) of no stubs, I hereby award you this barnstar! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 19:13, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
Cool idea! I think there are really only 5 lists left; the other few are character articles that for some reason, at some point, were made into lists, which I really think they are not. You may want to chime in on this point on the talk page so we can make the change in article titles, since you are listened to, because if we make the character lists start articles, I can hack and slash at them into C's and you can probably bring the last 5 lists up to FL, and we will have no stubs and all FL.Judgesurreal777 (talk) 20:16, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for warning Niemti on his talk page. Could we make one of those green banner for the article cleanup tags? Like what percentage of articles have them? We are in the mid 40's I think, could be another useful metric to work down to zero, or to 100% free. Also, update that wonderful graph when you get a chance, I bet we made a huge different in the last two months! Hi PresN. If you don't mind, can you please take a look at the differences here, here, here and here, as well as Talk:Jill Valentine/GA2? Also, can you please look at this section? I've been trying to minimize contact with Niemti, but apparently he's going around badmouthing me to regular established editors by calling me a "stalker" (I think that its only stalking if the edits are not done in good faith) and accusing me of "lying", which I never have and these comments are considered to be a clear violation of WP:NPA. He was already warned by Fladrif (talk · contribs) about this here. And that was after I posted on the WP:RSN and supported what Fladrif said after FutureTrillionaire brought it up at WT:VG/S. Also, there has been some contention with other editors (i.e. FutureTrillionaire) going on at the GAN of Jill Valentine after he quick-failed it due to sourcing issues; see also WP:RSN#Jill Valentine and WT:VG/S#Jill Valentine. Also, since editing on behalf of another editor is called meatpuppetry and can lead to a block, I am trying not to recruit meatpuppets nor am I trying to use sockpuppets as doing so can lead me to a block. What is the best option here? Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 19:35, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
Ok, the article seems to be close to GA status now, but I need someone to look at it since I'm too close to it having worked on it so much. I imagine it is a bit disorganized and needs some rewriting. If you could take a look before I nominate it, that would be much appreciated. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 21:01, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
At this time, Proposal 1, 3, and 5 have received full (or close to) support.
If you have questions of anything general (not related to one specif proposal), please leave a message under the General discussion thread.
As an outside editor, I have moved that Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Niemtibe closed.
I sent a notice to every editor who had previously commented in the RFC/U but had not yet commented on the Motion to close, including Niemti. Obviously, because of the block which you (quite justifiably) imposed, he can't comment at the RFC/U itself. At the prompting of another editor I have advised that it was my understanding that he could still comment on his Talk Page. If that is incorrect, please advise.
If you wish to comment on the Motion to close, please do so here . Fladrif (talk) 14:58, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
We are halfway through round two. Pool A sees the strongest competition, with five out of eight of its competitors scoring over 100, and Pool H is lagging, with half of its competitors yet to score. WikiCup veterans lead overall; Pool A's Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (2010's winner) leads overall, with poolmate Miyagawa (submissions) (a finalist in 2011 and 2012) not far behind. Pool F's Casliber (submissions) (a finalist in 2010, 2011 and 2012) is in third. The top two scorers in each pool, as well as the next highest 16 scorers overall, will progress to round three at the end of April.
Today has seen a number of Easter-themed did you knows from WikiCup participants, and March has seen collaboration from contestants with WikiWomen's History Month. It's great to see the WikiCup being used as a locus of collaboration; if you know of any collaborative efforts going on, or want to start anything up, please feel free to use the WikiCup talk page to help find interested editors. As well as fostering collaboration, we're also seeing the Cup encouraging the improvement of high-importance articles through the bonus point system. Highlights from the last month include GAs on physicist Niels Bohr ( Hawkeye7 (submissions)), on the European hare ( Cwmhiraeth (submissions)), on the constellation Circinus ( Keilana (submissions) and Casliber (submissions)) and on the Third Epistle of John ( Cerebellum (submissions)). All of these subjects were covered on at least 50 Wikipedias at the beginning of the year and, subsequently, each contribution was awarded at least three times as many points as normal.
Wikipedians who enjoy friendly competition may be interested in participating in April's wikification drive. While wikifying an article is typically not considered "significant work" such that it can be claimed for WikiCup points, such gnomish work is often invaluable in keeping articles in shape, and is typically very helpful for new writers who may not be familiar with formatting norms.
A quick reminder: now, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. Could you look at this and tell me what it needs? I have never worked on featuring a list before, and it seems complete, but I am probably not seeing what the issues are. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 11:51, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
Did the corrections, come see! :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 02:28, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
I am wracking my brain, and I can't figure something out. When writing an article like the Slime article I got to GA, the sectioning of the information seems very...arbitrary. Like, most of these characters origins involved how they were designed, but then there's a physical appearances section to, you see? And this one has a personality section, but then they talk about how it acts elsewhere too. It just feels like there are no clean lines in any of these character articles and I would love to hear of a way of making them that is very clean. Sorry to ramble, but it is something I'm trying to figure out. :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 04:16, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
I need clarification on this point, so I don't mistake deletion of these pieces for vandalism or hasty edits. Has there been a consensus to remove one or the other from game review ranking info boxes (sorry if this is clumsy phrasing)? I ask this because you seem to have just deleted the Game Rankings score for Final Fantasy XIII-2, and I was wanting to know if that had been decided, so I don't get shocked by any more sudden, large0scale deletions of this sort coming along in other articles on my watchlist. --ProtoDrake (talk) 21:34, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
Could you semi protect this article? They won't stop. And block some people while you're at it! :)Judgesurreal777 (talk) 15:54, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
All right. I've passed the Balthier article for GA. Also, on an irrelevant note, can you please join the discussion at Talk:Ghost in the Shell? There seems to be disagreements between Lucia Black, Ryulong and ChrisGualtieri and I think it requires administrator intervention. Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 00:25, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
I am sending this message to the users who I have closely collaborated with. I will be taking a temporary Wikibreak for at least 5-7 days to let off some steam and get myself reenergized. Some of the stress has got to me, so I think it's best if I should take a couple of days off. I also have final exams coming up as well, so I have more important things to worry about. I, however, will be here to contribute to some articles that I have worked on. Until then, farewell. We are a week into Round 3, but it is off to a flying start, with Sven Manguard (submissions) claiming for the high-importance Portal:Sports and Portal:Geography (which are the first portals ever awarded bonus points in the WikiCup) and Cwmhiraeth (submissions) claiming for a did you know of sea, the highest scoring individual did you know article ever submitted for the WikiCup. Round 2 saw very impressive scores at close; first place Casliber (submissions) and second place Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) both scored over 1000 points; a feat not seen in Round 2 since 2010. This, in part, has been made possible by the change in the bonus points rules, but is also testament to the quality of the competition this year. Pool C and Pool G were most competitive, with three quarters of participants making it to Round 3, while Pool D was the least, with only the top two scorers making it through. The lowest qualifying score was 123, significantly higher than last year's 65, 2011's 41 or even 2010's 100.
The next issue of The Signpost is due to include a brief update on the current WikiCup, comparing it to previous years' competitions. This may be of interest to current WikiCup followers, and may help bring some more new faces into the community. We would also like to note that this round includes an extra competitor to the 32 advertised, who has been added to a random pool. This extra inclusion seems to have been the fairest way to deal with a small mistake made before the beginning of this round, but should not affect the competition in a large way. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to contact one of the judges.
A rules clarification: content promoted between rounds can be claimed in the round after the break, but not the round before. The case in point is content promoted on 29/30 April, which may be claimed in this round. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Can you keep your eye on this discussion, please? Niemti and I are in a dispute about some recent edits he made, and, rather than answer my concerns, he insults me and questions my knowledge and experience as an editor. My concern is that this will only get worse as I have reverted him again and asked that he explain his edits and try to gain consensus for his edits. It is not enough for him to claim that it is somehow self-evident that his edits are positive and helpful. And he certainly has to refrain from insulting other editors. ---The Old JacobiteThe '45 19:14, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, because the article absolutely should be badly referenced (whole sectios unreferenced) and composed of single-sentence paragrapahs and lots of trivia (such as detailed descriptions of trailers, scena-by-scene), the content should include things having 'citation needed' tags for years and it's not "necessary or helpful" to remove such stuff, plot sections should be named "synopsis" and include things not even in the film (book companion), etc. etc., and all the improvement edits should be reverted as "none of those changes seemed necessary or helpful" (speaking of "he insults me and questions my knowledge and experience as an editor"). Btw, TheOldJacobite has article ownership issues with many film/series articles all over Wikipedia (I've seen it before, with other people, elsewhere). --Niemti (talk) 09:45, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
Oh, and it's this: [1] ("none of those changes seemed necessary or helpful"). When I write articles, I don't even mention trailers (it's such a trivia), but TheOldJacobite totally flips when one even questions (with a tag) a necessity for his long scene-by-scene description of a trailer, plus some original research-like commentary about an accuracy of... the said trailer (that's while his article has zero content regarding the historical accuracy of the series itself), without even a single reference to back any of it (and I've got it tagged for being unreferenced too, which allegedly was also not "necessary or helpful"), all of this given a whole separate section (because apparently it's "self-evident" this stuff is so "positive and helpful" and "necessary", and no one can't do anything with it unless explained to and approved by TheOldJacobite). --Niemti (talk) 09:53, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
Also, when explained in detail, The Old Jacobite will just flatly ignore the issues and not even respond (that was my take on his continous reverts of other user's edits there, in another article that The Old Jacobite believes he owns). --Niemti (talk) 10:38, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
He just reverted it for the third time, still demanding to review the changes before he would accept or reject them (he calls such ownership claims "consensus"). As I said, it's hardly just this article - and I just informed JTBX (who had such problems with this user before) about this discussion, so he can tell more, hopefully leading to some action regarding this problem (it's about time). --Niemti (talk) 13:49, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Hey! Thanks for adding details to the music section, that really helps a lot. I wanted to ask you, should this be split to a list and a series article, or stay the same? Also, when its convenient to you, could you help me fill in some of the remaining sections? I am having the hardest time finding anything to put there, and there are too many games for there to be nothing! :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 16:43, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for your contribution in List of Mystery Dungeon video games. I notice you don't add refernces for BS Fūrai no Shiren Surara wo Sukue, and I also try to do some research. Well, you migth notice info in Satellaview Wikia. I notice a Nintendo page introduce BS rai no Shiren (BS風来のシレン) "was boardcasted in May [1996] and would rerun... [in July as featured program]" (今回の放送は5月に放送された物の再放送で...). Unfortunately, boardcast list of May 1996 was not archived, but list of July 1996 had this game (BS風来のシレン〜スララを救え). And I add some Japanese ref for other items of this article, if you find English source you can replace it:) Hopy these are useful.--Wangxuan8331800 (talk) 10:57, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
You seemed to know the various relevant page numbers for the XIII and XIII-2 Scenario and Ultimania Omegas. I need your help. I want specific page numbers for the info on the page I've linked above so they don't seem too general. I don't have the books myself, I just know this through other sources that don't state the page numbers. No need to worry about the Fragments Before and After books. I've done those. I've done all I can with the Ultimanias, which isn't enough, so I really need your help. Can you help? --ProtoDrake (talk) 10:14, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.
A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)
Hi, I don't know if I'm supposed to come here to dispute undoing of edits, so sorry if I'm in the wrong place. When I modified that article. I was trying to go for something like what was done in here: [[2]]. I agree that the sorting can list the games by platform and date, but it helps readability tremendously when you separate them by platforms. Besides, when new multiplatform games are released, is looks much better to have a single entry in different tables, than having repeated entries on the same table. Hope you can see how my train of thought was.
So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

Hi PresN, a list you recently nominated at WP:FLC has been promoted! I was wondering if you'd consider nominating it for inclusion on the main page some time, at Today's Featured List? We are down to our final 16: the 2013 semi-finals are upon us. A score of 321 was required to survive round 3, further cementing this as the most competitive WikiCup yet; round 3 was survived in 2012 with 243 points, in 2011 with 76 points and in 2010 with 250 points. The change may in part be to do with the fact that more articles are now awarded bonus points, in addition to more competitive play. Reaching the final has, in the past, required 573 points (2012, a 135% increase on the score needed to reach round 4), 150 points (2011, a 97% increase) and 417 points (2010, a 72% increase). This round has seen over a third of participants claiming points for featured articles (with seven users claiming for multiple featured articles) and most users have also gained bonus points. However, the majority of points continue to come from good articles, followed by did you know articles. In this round, every content type was utilised by at least one user, proving that the WikiCup brings together content contributors from all corners of the project.
Round 3 saw a number of contributions of note. Figureskatingfan (submissions) claimed the first featured topic points in this year's competition for her excellent work on topics related to Maya Angelou, the noted American author and poet. We have also continued to see high-importance articles improved as part of the competition: Ealdgyth (submissions) was awarded a thoroughly well-earned 560 points for her featured article Middle Ages and 102 points for her good article Battle of Hastings. Good articles James Chadwick and Stanislaw Ulam netted Hawkeye7 (submissions) 102 and 72 points respectively, while 72 points were awarded to Piotrus (submissions) for each of Władysław Sikorski and Emilia Plater, both recently promoted to good article status. Collaborative efforts between WikiCup participants have continued, with, for example, Casliber (submissions) and Sasata (submissions) being awarded 180 points each for their featured article on Boletus luridus.
A rules reminder: content promoted between rounds can be claimed in the round after the break, but not the round before. The case in point is content promoted on the 29/30 June, which may be claimed in this round. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. We are currently seeing concern about the amount of time people have to wait for reviews, especially at GAC- if you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to reduce the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! We're halfway through this year's penultimate round, and the competition is moving along well. Pool A's Sasata (submissions) currently leads overall, while Pool B's Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) is second. Both leaders are WikiCup veterans, and both have already scored over 600 points this month. If the round were to end today, Miyagawa (submissions), with 274 points, would be the lowest-scoring participant to make it through. This indicates that participants will need a score comparable to last year's (573, the highest ever) to qualify for the final. The high scores this year are a testament both to the quality of participants and to the increased focus on significant content (eligible for bonus points) in this year's competition. So far this round, both Sasata and Cwmhiraeth (submissions) have made up over half of their score through bonus points, with, for example, high importance FA koala earning Sasata a total of 440 points (from a multiplier of 4.4) and high-importance GA sea earning Cwmhiraeth a total of 216 points (from a multiplier of 7.2). Other articles on important topics submitted this round include a featured article on the Norman conquest of England by Ealdgyth (submissions), and good articles on Nobel laureate in literature Henryk Sienkiewicz, Nobel laureate in physics Hans Bethe, and the noted Japanese aircraft carrier Hiryū. These articles are by Piotrus (submissions), Hawkeye7 (submissions) and Sturmvogel_66 respectively.
Other than that, there is not much to report! Removed Crono's entries because there was enough sources that I could just get to work on the article. Hello, I am told you are mentoring the above user. We ran into conflict at The Last of Us over the titling of sections. He didn't give a reason for the change, just that it is a standard format. When I presented him with FA articles that showed the existing formatting was correct he proceeding to go "fix" them as well and edit war over the same issue across the three articles. When I tagged him for edit warring he just tagged me and has removed any talk I add to his page. As I understand it he has numerous issues relating to video game articles, perhaps if he is still under your tutelage he needs reminding of such as he is ignoring me. Thanks for your time. This year's final is upon us. Our final eight, in order of last round's score, are:
We say goodbye to eight great participants who did not qualify for the final: Piotrus (submissions), Figureskatingfan (submissions), ThaddeusB (submissions), Dana boomer (submissions), Status (submissions), Ed! (submissions), 12george1 (submissions), Calvin999 (submissions). Having made it to this stage is still an excellent achievement, and you can leave with your heads held high. We hope to see you all again next year. Signups are now open for the 2014 WikiCup, which will begin on 1 January. All Wikipedians, whatever their interest or level of experience, are warmly invited to participate in next year's competition.
This last month has seen some incredible contributions; for instance, Cwmhiraeth's Starfish and Ealdgyth's Battle of Hastings—two highly important, highly viewed pages—made it to featured article status. It would be all too easy to focus solely on these stunning achievements at the expense of those participants working in lower-scoring areas, when in fact all WikiCup participants are doing excellent work. A mention of everything done is impossible, but here are a few: Last round saw the completion of several good topics (on the 1958, 1959 and 1962 Atlantic hurricane seasons) to which 12george1 had contributed. Calvin999 saw "S&M" (song), on which he has been working for several years, through to featured article status on its tenth try. Figureskatingfan continued towards her goal of a broad featured/good topic on Maya Angelou, with two featured and four good articles. ThaddeusB contributed significantly to over 20 articles which appeared on the main page's "in the news" section. Adam Cuerden continued to restore a large number of historical images, resulting in over a dozen FP credits this round alone. The WikiCup is not just about top-importance featured articles, and the work of all of these users is worthy of commendation.
Finally, the usual notices: If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to reduce the review backlogs! Hi there, thank you so much for your outstanding contributions to the Final Fantasy music articles. I am really impressed to see that we have pages of that sort. It definitely demonstrates your love for the series.
I'm wondering, how did you justify those articles as notable and thus ensure they didn't get merged with the game articles? All the standard stuff about reliable sources, yes, but it seems that with The Legend of Zelda series many of the in-depth articles got merged back into the main game articles. It's as if there was a philosophy over the past few years that any given game could only have one article about it, no matter how impactful the game and how many different aspects of it were of note. So do you have any advice on how to defend such articles as notable? CaseyPenk (talk) 16:35, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

I have just made a review for your nomination for the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel list. May I ask in return a review for this nomination?
In 30 days, we will know the identity of our 2013 WikiCup champion. Cwmhiraeth (submissions) currently leads; if that lead is held, she will become the first person to have won the WikiCup twice. Sasata (submissions), Hawkeye7 (submissions)—who has never participated in the competition before—and Casliber (submissions) follow. The majority of points in this round have come from a mix of good articles and bonus points. This final round is seeing contributions to a number of highly important topics; recent submissions include Phoenix (constellation) (FA by Casliber), Ernest Lawrence (GA by Hawkeye7), Pinniped, and red fox (both GAs by Sasata).
The did you know (DYK) eligibility criteria have recently changed, meaning that newly passed good articles are accepted as "new" for did you know purposes. However, in the interests of not changing the WikiCup rules mid-competition, please note that only articles eligible for DYK under the old system (that is, newly created articles or 5x expansions) will be eligible for points in this year's WikiCup. We do, however, have time to discuss how this new system will work for next year's competition; a discussion will be opened in due course. On that note, thoughts are welcome on changes you'd like to see for next year. What worked? What didn't work? What would you like to see more of? What would you like to see less of? All Wikipedians, new or old, are also warmly invited to sign up for the 2014 WikiCup.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. I remember you said you were willing to help with this. I've located the issues that really need fixing, but (it may sound uncharitable) Lucia Black is being a little unreliable at the moment in terms of her vanishing, and then popping up later and creating a new issue to innumerate today. Project At a GlanceAs of Q3 2013, the project has:
While you may object to the length of the plot summary, the fact remains that there is a plot to Super Meat Boy. You just blanked it. Under any other circumstance that would be vandalism. If you have a problem with the length, try being constructive and trimming the text, instead of just nuking the whole thing because you can't bother to collaborate.
Additionally, you might bother to provide constructive feedback as to your objections to what I wrote, instead of the Wikipedia equivalent of "f%$# you, no, you're wrong." -- Y|yukichigai (ramble argue check) 09:38, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up about the review. I'll get myself ready to face the slings and arrows of the GA review, while taking arms against my own sea of troubles... Sorry, getting carried away. But you will have to explain what good topics and peer reviews are, or direct me to where I can find out. And if all the articles relating to Final Fantasy XIII did become a good topic eventually, what kind of effect would it have? I'm still not up on everything on Wikipedia, you see. On the whole, it sounds a good next step for them. And by the way, it would be wonderful if you helped me get Lightning Returns to GA and FA when the time comes. --ProtoDrake (talk) 08:07, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
I'm glad you found the work satisfactory, and no, the blog source is just something I found. As to getting all that done quickly, I'm a fast worker, and don't like hanging around. On top of that, I usually think best on the hop. You know, I was rather worried it wouldn't pass. And it still hasn't got the plot and reception info in it concerning Lightning Returns, but that will come in time. I have also just put up Lightning Returns for a peer review, so we could make that good topic after all.
I think the references for Lightning should be archived too, but how do I do that? I haven't the faintest idea. Could you forward the instructions to me tomorrow, then I can get round to it when I have a descent amount of time. None of the references are going anywhere fast from what I can judge. By the by, only the first page of the NowGamer article reference is there. I checked and the rest had not been archived. Shame. --ProtoDrake (talk) 23:00, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

Prizes will be handed out in the coming weeks. Please be patient!
Congratulations to everyone who has been successful in this year's WikiCup, whether you made it to the final rounds or not, and a particular congratulations to the newcomers to the WikiCup who have achieved this year. Thanks to all who have taken part and helped out with the competition. While it has been an excellent year, errors have opened up the judges' eyes to the need for a third judge, and it is with pleasure that we announce that experienced WikiCup participant Miyagawa will be acting as a judge from now on. We hope you will all join us in welcoming him to the team.
Next year's competition begins on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; it is open to all Wikipedians, new and old. Thanks for doing the GA review, sorry if I overstepped any boundaries by butting into the nominations, I just didn't want to see it fail for silly reasons. If you don't mind me asking though, are all the archive dates and access dates meant to be done in yyyy-mm-dd? The past weekend was ICON 38; there was a surprising amount of talk about the history of fandom and fanzines, and on my way out I picked up the Ace-Double-style volume from Chicon IV, with Lee Hoffman on one side and Bert Chandler on the other, for US$1.50! I opened the Hoffman first, and bang! there was that quote, so warmly reminiscent of the few times I got to meet Lee herself, but also of the latest issue of Andy Hooper's Flag that came to my mailbox over the weekend. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:11, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
I was wondering whether you would be doing an article for the music of Lightning Returns? The other XIII games have such articles, and you seem to have been the biggest contributor in that regard. I was thinking, remembering our conversation about getting the XIII games and directly related articles as a Good Topic, maybe that particular move should be postponed until the LR music article is created, if it is indeed going to be created. So, what's happening in that regard, if anything? --ProtoDrake (talk) 21:09, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00.
At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge.
If you know anyone outside of the WikiProject that may be interested, feel free to invite them to the drive!

I was wondering if you could lend your expertise and sourcing abilities to this article. - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 20:21, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
I think I've done my nomination statement. Feel free to take the next step by all means, if there is a next step that can be taken by the nominators at this stage. If I've misinterpreted what you mean by "nomination statement", please inform me so I may rectify it. --ProtoDrake (talk) 21:23, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I may have been a bit too quick to close this nomination but I'm letting you know that I failed Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Final Fantasy XIII/archive1. I felt the arguments against it was enough to fail it but if you disagree let me know. GamerPro64 18:05, 9 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for blocking those G-Zay sock puppets. It's always a sad day when a user decides to disrupt Wikipedia via socks, but denies that he is G-Zay. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 01:20, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
I wish you success and happiness in your endeavours for this coming year, and I hope we'll be able to carry on improving the wonderful project that is Wikipedia together! Keep rocking on! :)

I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2014! This greeting (and season) promotes WikiLove and hopefully this note has made your day a little better. Spread the WikiLove by wishing another user a Merry Christmas, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past, a good friend, or just some random person.
G-Zay is on the loose once again, this time editing as Skyjet89 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). Can you please block him? I had to file an edit filter request because of G-Zay's actions, but no response is there as of yet. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 18:15, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
The single talk page post, while holding similar opinions to G-Zay, is not similar enough in actions for me to block them. I'm only 50% sure that's it's G-Zay at this point, based mainly on the fact that he's the only person for years to ever care about Kitase's exact credits in FF games, but that's not enough for a block. Don't worry about it, SJones- I try to stay on top of G-Zay, so I'm monitoring the situation- I watch all the pages he's been associated with. --PresN 21:20, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
Hello PresN, and welcome to the 2014 WikiCup! Your submission page can be found here. The competition will begin at midnight tonight (UTC). There have been a few small changes from last year; the rules can be read in full at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring, and the page also includes a summary of changes. One important rule to remember is that only content on which you have completed significant work, and nominated, in 2014 is eligible for points in the competition- the judges will be checking! As ever, this year's competition includes some younger editors. If you are a younger editor, you are certainly welcome, but we have written an advice page at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Advice for younger editors for you. Please do take a look. Any questions should be directed to one of the judges, or left on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will make it to round 2. Good luck! I've been working on the Drakengard 2 article (creating development and reception sections, generally improving it), and recently I've noticed that the infobox has developed some weird fault. I've looked at the HTML text, but it's not there. Can you help fix this? I'm stumped. --ProtoDrake (talk) 21:25, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
Just a random question. Is this game within the scope of Wikipedia:WikiProject Square Enix? I noticed that it was published by SCi (which is now Square Enix Europe) so it may but I don't know the process in the Project. GamerPro64 04:32, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

PresN, thank you for taking the time to review this article. I've made changes to all your suggestions thus far, with the exception of the colored column. Should I keep the column and add the symbol within the column, or nix the column and place the symbol indicating its status in the name column? If you have any additional questions or suggestions, please let me know, and I'll address them ASAP. -- Caponer (talk) 04:09, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
Hi. While I have filed an edit filter request to prevent G-Zay's abuse, I wanted to ask you something, given my history with him: in your opinion, do you think an edit filter or WP:LTA report will prevent his edits or would a range block on G-Zay's ISPs work better? Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 04:35, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

The article Secret of Mana you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Secret of Mana for things which need to be addressed. The 2014 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with, at time of writing, 138 participants. The is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2010. If you are yet to join the competition, don't worry- the judges have agreed to keep the signups open for a few more days. By a wide margin, our current leader is newcomer Godot13 (submissions), whose set of 14 featured pictures, the first FPs of the competition, was worth 490 points. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:
Featured articles, featured lists, featured topics and featured portals are yet to play a part in the competition. The judges have removed a number of submissions which were deemed ineligible. Typically, we aim to see work on a project, followed by a nomination, followed by promotion, this year. We apologise for any disappointment caused by our strict enforcement this year; we're aiming to keep the competition as fair as possible.
Wikipedians interested in friendly competition may be interested to take part in The Core Contest; unlike the WikiCup, The Core Contest is not about audited content, but, like the WikiCup, it is about article improvement; specifically, The Core Contest is about contribution to some of Wikipedia's most important article. Of course, any work done for The Core Contest, if it leads to a DYK, GA or FA, can earn WikiCup points.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hey, PresN. I've been off for a while but I'll be finishing up the last couple of notes left for List of Sega Genesis games at its FLC today. Thanks again for your feedback. I do have a question, though; I'll be looking to archive everything per your suggestion, but there's one very crucial reference that doesn't seem to be allowed to be archived at web.archive.org, and that's Allgame. Any ideas how I might be able to get an archive URL? Thanks, Red Phoenix let's talk...check out the Sega task force 14:13, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
Hi, my name's "Mr. Gonna Change My Name Forever". You can call me "Mr. Gonna" or "Gonna" because its easier to do so then say my full Wikipedia username.
I looked up this article today as my first choice for reading one of the articles listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Reviewing pre-2008 FAs. I am not a fan of the Devil May Cry video games, but I just read this article because of "Reviewing pre-2008 FAs" and found it to be below Featured Article (FA) standards. Before explaining the issues here, I thought of the article as a whole compared to the contemporary FA. I checked the article again, just for verifying if I was right on the flaws I identified. My earliest findings on this article, "Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening", are that it needs additional references/soruces, has prose issues, and must be expanded. And the lead does not talk about the development of the game. The article also sometimes gets into mediocre grammar.
I am not the first user to report the problems with this article. Tezero created "Devil May Cry 3: Just telling you", a section on the talk page of Caribbean H.Q. (who was known as "Dark Dragon Flame" back when he developed the article into an FA in 2007) in which Tezero asserts it needs sourcing, has got to have a screenshot, and is "among the most likely WP:VG articles to get nominated for an FAR." He also says: "The second and third paragraphs of Gameplay are particularly glaring." So indeed yes, "Devil May Cry 3" has an Featured article review (FAR). As of the time of this edit, the FAR is currently on hold.
I copied this text from the article talk page, so that more people are aware. When I did it to both this page and the FAR, the text was slightly altered.
I asked igordebraga for his input on the article, and we agreed that "DMC3" has unsourced statements, badly-written sections (Development, Sales), instances of poor grammar and prose, and no game screenshot image. He answered my three questions related to the article's FA status on the article talk page, and I thanked him for that. I chose you to help me improve the article since you're more into video game articles than Igordebraga, who recently nominated Lightning Bolt (Pearl Jam album), a music article, for GA status because of this:
Can you please do the three tasks I wrote on this section of the article talk page. The first one demands you rewrite and expand the "Sales" section and include reliable information about the game's sales in Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, etc. (everywhere else around the world). The second says the article needs additional references. The third gives you chances to upload a screenshot of the game with a "Fair use rationale" template.
I made a request for copyediting DMC3 to the Guild of Copy Editors. Igordebraga did the same thing with the Metroid Prime article. IX|(C"<) 02:26, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:
Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.
More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.
I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

Thank you, PresN, for your helpful feedback at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Dan Savage bibliography/archive1. I agreed with all of your recommendations, so I just went ahead and implemented the changes directly to the list page. The list looks much better for them.
Perhaps you could revisit your position at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Dan Savage bibliography/archive1?
Thanks again,

And so ends the most competitive first round we have ever seen, with 38 points required to qualify for round 2. Last year, 19 points secured a place; before that, 11 (2012) or 8 (2011) were enough. This is both a blessing and a curse. While it shows the vigourous good health of the competition, it also means that we have already lost many worthy competitors. Our top three scorers were:
Other competitors of note include:
After such a competitive first round, expect the second round to also be fiercely fought. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2, but please do not update your submission page until March (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

I was looking at Talk:Ling Xiaoyu/GA1 today since I saw a comment about it on Red Phoenix's talk page, and I recalled this closure. I'm a neutral third party and I'm not particularly interested in involving myself, but I saw from the WTVG archives that you have handled Niemti's previous cases and wanted to at least run this past you. czar ♔ 00:47, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Hello there. Thank you for blocking Special:Contributions/206.47.113.38. Several of their edits require partial (edit summary) or complete revdelling, and no one on the revdel IRC is responding, despite my first request being over 25 minutes ago (about 10 minutes before the IP was blocked). Any chance you could handle those, or poke an admin for me who would be willing to? AddWittyNameHere (talk) 03:39, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi. [[User talk:|Niemti]] and I are once again involved in a conflict on the Jessica Nigri article. I tried talking to him on his talk page, but he again violates WP:CIV, WP:EDITWAR/WP:3RR and now WP:OPENPARAGRAPH, and refuses to respond to my requests for clarification in a straightforward, civil manner. I have started a discussion at ANI. Since you're familiar with past problems involving him, can you offer your assistance? Thank you very much. Nightscream (talk) 01:49, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
A quick update as we are half way through round two of this year's competition. WikiCup newcomer Godot13 (submissions) (Pool E) leads, having produced a massive set of featured pictures for Silver certificate (United States), an article also brought to featured list status. Former finalist Adam Cuerden (submissions) (Pool G) is in second, which he owes mostly to his work with historical images, including a number of images from Urania's Mirror, an article also brought to good status. 2010 champion (Pool C) is third overall, thanks to contributions relating to naval history, including the newly featured Japanese battleship Nagato. Cliftonian (submissions), who currently leads Pool A and is sixth overall, takes the title for the highest scoring individual article of the competition so far, with the top importance featured article Ian Smith.
With 26 people having already scored over 100 points, it is likely that well over 100 points will be needed to secure a place in round 3. Recent years have required 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) and 100 (2010). Remember that only 64 will progress to round 3 at the end of April. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page; if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.
