Hi. Just so you know, edits such as this one are a waste of your time unless you absolutely can't stand to see double spacing on the editing view. Per MOS:DOUBLESPACE they are only rendered as single spaces in the reading view anyway. There was no need for you to alter the sentence, in the Buzz Aldrin article, “The police declined to press charges against Aldrin, the deputy district attorney of the Beverly Hills office declaring that Sibrel had provoked him.” You rewrote the participial clause (participial phrase) ending that sentence as a second independent clause: “and the deputy district attorney of the Beverly Hills office declared that Sibrel had provoked him,” giving your reason as “Grammar, tense.”
But the prose was correct in formal English as written. It’s quite legitimate to attach a different subject to a participial clause when that subject differs from the one in the main clause, as in, say, “The game starting, she focused on the field,” or, “I relaxed with a drink, my work finished.” People seldom speak this way informally, but, in one fairly common usage today, someone will explain something and then add, “That said,…”
I’ve seen this kind of participial clause called a semiclause, but that seems to be an unusual name for it in formal grammar. Mucketymuck (talk) 05:58, 6 July 2025 (UTC)

Hello, DervotNum4. I appreciate that you had a dispute with an IP editor about content at Chukai, but that does not justify starting an Rfc. I have removed the Rfc header, and encourage discussion about this at the Talk page. First of all, I understand that you have already discussed with the other editor at length about this, but there is no discussion at all at Talk:Chukai about it (apart from the decommissioned Rfc that was just initiated), thus no opportunity for other editors to even know there was a dispute going on. Discussions about article content should be held at the article Talk page, to facilitate multiple editors getting involved. Initiating an Rfc is a very expensive use of our most precious resource—editor time—as it runs for 31 days, and attracts responses from many editors. To justify that level of investment, you need a dispute that has been going on a long time, among many editors, with no clear consensus emerging. That is clearly not the case here. Please have a look at WP:RFCBEFORE and follow the recommendations there, before starting a new Rfc about this (or about any topic). Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 19:08, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

I am thinking about whether the Government of Peace and Unity and its leaders (Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and Mohammed Hassan al-Ta'ishi) should be included in List of heads of state of Sudan and List of heads of government of Sudan, respectively. The GPU is a rival government to the Transitional Sovereignty Council, and it has firm control over certain areas of the country; its inclusion might be justified IMO. — Sundostund mppria (talk / contribs) 17:10, 28 September 2025 (UTC)

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

What you notice about y dna is true. if you look at Talk:Göktürks you can see there is argue there. As you notice most of the table is about burials that were after or even before. for example TUK001 is xiongnu period, KHN001 is mongol, OLN008 is female from Uyghur period (females don't have y dna).OLN001 is male from Uyghur period. TUK001 is female, TUK002 is xiongnu and haplogroup O-F26105,UAA001 is Mönkhkhairkhan and is haplo N. Other thing is using wrong subclades for samples for example both ZAA002 and ZAA004 are C-f1756 →f3830→SK1082 2A01:5EC0:1002:13E1:1:0:7F2C:FCC0 (talk) 15:26, 11 October 2025 (UTC)

Hello @DervotNum4,
I saw that you reverted a couple of my edits, naming Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. I was not familiar with this page, and thought that I had written far enough away from the original text, although the facts seemed relatively straight forward enough for me that I didn't think that it required much. I appreciate that I may have fallen short.
I thought about suggesting that in future cases where you see a new user make a mistake such as this, you write to them on their talk page to explain their mistake and how they should correct it, rather than reverting their edits, but come to think of it I can see why it would be prioritized to remove things that have even a chance at breaching copyright and plagiarism rules.
At any rate, I tried to go for a better paraphrasing, including dropping some of the information that may be interesting but not necessary. If you have experience in this matter, I would appreciate some tips from you on how to best include this sort of information from a source without falling short on close paraphrasing.
Thank you kindly,

Thanks for the corrective revert. The TA in question was making hundreds of rapid fire edits w/o sources and removing orphan tags all over the place. Hello! I'm sorry for not adding a source on the Tuyuhun wikipedia page. I'm using Peter B. Golden's work as a reference. He prefers the reconstruction "Togon" following Pulleyblank's work but he doesn't give a translation. He also quotes the linguist Shimunek for the alternative form *tʰɔyʁɔn (roughly 'Toyron' or 'Thoyron'). Shimunek believes it's a Para-Mongolic version of Modern Mongolian toyiɣn ‘gyrfalcon’.
Would it be better if I added a paragraph for the etymology?

Hello,
Regarding Mat Salleh Rebellion, literally every battle and war on this website uses unit badge in lieu of flag, because most often this unit badge WAS the flag of the unit. This is the standard for military conflicts on Wikipedia.
I decided not to revert your edit, but it is not correct to remove this flagicon. Guylaen (talk) 05:09, 24 March 2026 (UTC)

Firstly, you mentioned that the flag of the Federated Malay States is actually correct, but it was used when the British were preparing to establish the Malayan Union; then the Malayan Union failed, and it was used by the Federation of Malaya before 1950... I have taken the liberty of placing the Federation of Malaya next to that flag. At that time, it was requested of Indian sepoys under the Malaya Command – which comprised the Federated Malay States, the Straits Settlements and the Unfederated Malay States, as well as parts of British Malaya – that they protect Malay territory. MalayanGuard (talk) 21:48, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
I literally copied the information over from the James Brooke article to the John Brooke Johnson Brooke article and stated as much in my edit summary [7]. If you consider the information unacceptable for the John Brooke Johnson Brooke article [8], then you should also remove that same information from the James Brooke article. Otherwise, the standards being applied to the two articles are inconsistent. Also, most sentences/statements in the John Brooke Johnson Brooke article are also currently unsourced, and I wonder why all those other unsourced sentences/statements are allowed to stand. —Lowellian (reply) 01:22, 6 June 2026 (UTC)

The original map doesn't really show the occupation of akhmim and makes no mention of it(when I added it again) , and the current map has hardly any definition and definite borders in the current map it's just a bunch of incomprehensible lines drawn that hardly define a kingdom with borders making it hard for readers to define the borders of the kingdom, whereas the latter map clearly has a kingdom defined with borders at it's peak as most kingdoms empires and states are presented as on wiki when their at the height of their rule, that map was the map for the kingdom of Makuria for years and I still think it's the best one
AllfactsandTruth (talk) 17:38, 17 July 2026 (UTC)
and Keep in mind that map is actually more conservative and cautious it doesn't show akhmin
"In the 15th century at-Taghribirdi reported that the Nubians “marched on Aswan and beyond, down to Akhmim, killing and plundering, taking prisoners and setting fire to villages.”(Vantini 1975, p. 735) This description gives the image of a large raid rather than permanent conquest, especially since no occupation is reported by him or any other Arab historian. This also counts for al-Maqdisi, who wrote only shortly after the invasion, in 966, but still noted that Aswan constituted the frontier to Nubia, as well as al-Aswani, who visited Nubia in 970.(Vantini 1975, pp. 148 ; 601)
Still, there is evidence that Makuria was increasing its presence and influence in Upper Egypt. Michalowski proposed that Makuria occupied Egypt as far north as Edfu until the mid-11th century, referring to the contemporary blossoming of Christian Nubian culture in the local monastery of St. Mercurios.(Michalowski 1967, p. 36) Indeed, a collection of manuscripts written in Coptic and Old Nobiin dating from 960 to 1060 attests connections to Nubia and even Nubian patronage.(van der Vliet and Djikstra 2019, pp. 13-15) It seems that many Nubians settled in Upper Egypt, while Copts settled in Nubia to escape Islamic persecution.(Effland 2004, p. 74 and Werner 2013, pp. 193-194) The monastery of St. Simeon in Aswan was rebuilt in Nubian style.(Michalowski 1967, p. 36) On its walls we find an inscription which is dated after the ruling years of king Zachary, the same who had led the invasion of 962-964 and ruled until 969 at the latest.(Werner 2013, p. 101) Manuscripts discovered in the same monastery mention a Makurian occupation of the Arab towns of Esna, Armant and Abnud that lasted three years.(Michalowski 1967, p. 36) A well-preserved fortress now known as Qal’at al-Baben, located 19 km south of Edfu, shows Nubian influences, suggesting that it was built by Makuria in the second half of the 10th century.(Effland 2004, pp. 58-75) In 989 we learn that Makuria deployed garrisons in the towns of Akhmim and Edfu.(Werner 2013, p. 104) In conclusion, we should refute the idea that Makuria annexed Upper Egypt as far north as Edfu for almost 100 years, as proposed by Michalowski, as such a quite drastic geo-political change certainly would have attracted the attention of Arab historians and geographers. Instead, we see a limited military presence in certain towns and a Nubian influence in the monastic milieu."
When I made the new map I had forgotten about this hehe. Therefore it would make sense to expand the map to Akhmim and mark that territory as "Zone of Influence" or something like that. Luckily I still have the map as xcf file, so I could still edit it accordingly. LeGabrie (talk) 11:30, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
