About me I am not employed by the Wikimedia Foundation, but I am in the city of San Francisco roughly every month or so for Wikipedia-related activities. I am an active member of the Bay Area Wikipedians User Group (BAWUG), which has taken over the organizing of monthly Wikipedia meetups in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I have also attended occasional functions at the Cascadia Wikimedians User Group, in the Seattle region. I've lived a lot of my life in the Pacific Northwest, but I am currently living in Monterey, California. I was born and raised on Whidbey Island. I've also spent time in Honolulu, Manhattan, Dongducheon, and Fort Leonard Wood. I'm also big time into the work of the United Nations and talking about things instead of having wars, so you might see some work of mine on these subjects. My work here I primarily write on English wikipedia. I write about Cuba, the Intelligence field, Espionage, the British Empire, and related areas. I absolutely and wholeheartedly reject payment to edit or advocate on anyone's behalf. I understand that some companies are authorized by the Foundation to create articles, but I find the practice unusual and it kind of makes my skin crawl. On this New Year's Eve, I pledge that I will NEVER use large language models to produce any part of a Wikipedia article.

I have run through the full gambit of emotion regarding writing using AI. At first, I was tricked by the following thoughts:

• "The world needs to know this."
• "The world needs to know this more than I need to write it."
• "AI can write an article better than I can."
• "As long as I am feeding information into the AI, I can be sure that its results can be accurate."

I realize now that it was a big mistake to use AI to write the following articles, because we need to keep Wikipedia a clean and pure place where you will only find articles that didn't use AI. Please help me with these by cleaning up the language on these articles:

The best way to know if one of my articles includes AI is to search for the word "marked." I do not use that word, ever, in my own writing. It's genuinely one of my least favorite words in the field. With the one small exception being: statues and plaques that mark the location where something happened. Or the phrase "X marks the spot."
