About
Hello, my name is Francis Carroll Freeman. I have been here since 11 September 2022 (what an unfortunate Wikiversary). I first registered on Wikimedia Commons, not English Wikipedia, because my initial reason for creating a Wikimedia account was to upload photos of insects and of Glen Helen Regional Park there. I made minor, sporadic edits to enwiki in the years that followed, but forgot about my account most of the time and thus did not establish myself here until June of 2025. That is probably a good thing, as I was, when I registered, a fourteen-year-old with a half-baked frontal lobe; had I tried then to involve myself in the more conspicuous tasks (e.g. article writing and participating in discussions) on Wikipedia, I probably would have got myself blocked. I have changed my username here twice: I signed up as C. Frank Freeman (a permutation of my real name), renamed to Frank Falconer (a short-lived pseudonym I thought cool at the time) a few months later and then renamed to RandFreeman (the "Rand" being a truncation of my first name) in June of 2025 after I rediscovered this account. During that June I, while mustering up the confidence to add content, made a flurry of edits adding short descriptions to articles, adding leads to articles missing them and rewriting bad leads. I got my proverbial feet wet by rewriting and expanding Dutch: A Memoir of Ronald Reagan at the month's end; I do not recall how I came about the article, but I decided to overhaul it after encountering its dismal state. Since then I have mostly substituted content creation for petty gnoming.
My interests are all over the place; I may edit any article, on any subject, that I think could be expanded or improved and want to deal with myself. I especially enjoy, however, writing on journalism, newspapers, 19th-century politics and San Bernardino County. The articles, that I created, expanded significantly or wholly rewrote, of which I am proudest are The Marion Star, as it is my first, and so far only, Good Article; Peter Tyrrell, which I was impelled to improve partly because I sympathised with Tyrrell's plight and felt that his life story deserved all the words that could be written of it, and the corresponding Founded on Fear; Opinion journalism and Narrative journalism, which I rescued from being a stub and a crappy essay, respectively, on important concepts to journalism; and Elizabeth Speer Buchanan and James Buchanan Sr., the parents of the 15th U.S. president. Below is an incomplete list of articles whose content I have worked on. Sometimes I participate in XfD discussions, clear diffs at CCIs, nominate spam for speedy deletion, clean up LLM-generated garbage and assess/reassesss unassessed/improperly assessed articles.

I am a native Anglophone. I know an intermediate-advanced level of Spanish, know enough written (I cannot speak it) French to communicate at a basic level and get the gist of French-language sources, and know a few German words and phrases. For one-on-one matters, for chats, for queries you do not want to put on my talk page or for hate mail, you may email me here, where I will respond quicker than if you post on my talk page. I am on Discord as @tbd855; shoot me a friend request if you want, I don't bite. I also have a blog, and an iNaturalist account under the same name as here, RandFreeman. I have a doppelgänger account, RandFreeman mobile, that I have created to prevent impersonation. While you're here, you can sign my guestbook.
Editorial positions
I am a mesopedian. Our readers ought to be our greatest priority, and both content and policies must be at their best to serve them; they deserve to have well-written, accurate articles, more obviously, but to advance this goal we need to create and enforce policies and guidelines that facilitate the creation of high-quality content, and prevent the creation of low-quality content (and, additionally, the disruption of the creation of high-quality content). A wiki without content would be empty; a wiki without policy, contrariwise, would be overrun by copyright violations, LLM slop, original research, hoaxes and every type of vandalism known to man. But while policy goes a long way, common sense goes longer and can, in almost all cases, answer questions raised by ambiguities in the former.
Biases
Nobody is exempt from developing biases nor from taking actions, consciously or subconsciously, that impose them on the external world. I, being no exception, hereby declare my own. I am registered to vote as a Republican and have generally conservative social positions. Thus I understand my own ability to edit constructively, in the eyes of the Wikipedia community, in the topics of transgender issues and abortion to be questionable, and so tend to avoid them. But I try to be impartial, and no instances of my political views coloring my interactions with other editors have come to my awareness. I have no patience for lunes; by lunes, I mean anyone who attempts to edit Wikipedia or sway discussions thereof in order to legitimise alternative medicine, pseudoscience, pseudohistory, historical negationism, conspiracy theories or any other brand of lunacy.
