Jerome William Lavoie (Jerry) is a resident of Columbus, Mississippi. He is an Automation Engineer for Severstal North America (SNA), a steel manufacturing corporation.

Jerry was born on March 21, 1969 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine, at 10:00a.m.. He was baptised at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lewiston, Maine.

He is the son of Jacqueline (Carrier) Lavoie (aka: Jackie) of Auburn, Maine and Maurice W. Lavoie (aka: Bill) of Lewiston, Maine. He is the youngest of four siblings, including sister: Joline Manseau, and brothers: Ronald and Julien. At the time of his birth, the family resided in Lewiston, Maine. Jackie was a homemaker, and Bill was a Textiles Engineer at the Hill Mill division of Bates Mill until 1971, when the mill closed.

After the closure of the Hill Mill, the family moved to Bedford, New Hampshire, as Bill took a job at Waumbec Mills in Manchester, New Hampshire. Jerry lived in Bedford for the remainder of his Childhood. He attended the following schools:

• 1974-75 Kindergarten, at Bedford Mother's Club Kindergarten at Bedford Presbyterian Church in Bedford, NH
• 1975-77 Grades 1 and 2 at Memorial Elementary School, Bedford, NH
• 1977-79 Grades 3 and 4 at Peter Woodbury School, Bedford, NH
• 1979-80 Grade 5 at Memorial Elementary School, Bedford, NH
• 1980-83 Grades 6-8 at McKelvie Middle School, Bedford, NH
• 1983-87 High School at Manchester High School West, Manchester, NH (HS Diploma)

While in school, Jerry was very involved with the school music and drama programs. In grammar school, he starred as the leading role in public performances of Oklahoma!, and Bye Bye Birdie, in which now-actress/comedianne Sarah Silverman, now-screenwriter Steven Sills, now-actress Bridget Walsh, now- metal band booking agent and rock musician Danny Bigg (he now goes by 'Sullivan Bigg'), and now-interactive media and Font designer Matthew Butterick also appeared. In 8th grade, he was a member of the ragazzi (children's choir) for a series of performances of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana at The Palace Theatre, Manchester, New Hampshire.

Jerry was a childhood friend and next-door neighbor of famous opera star Patricia Racette.

In high school he was President of the drama club, Theatre Knights, and had the lead role in 8 public performance plays, including The Man Who Came to Dinner. He also was in the Chorus. In Chorus, he made the New Hampshire All-State, All-State Jazz, All New England, and All Eastern Music Festivals. (He made solo at each festival.) In his senior year, he was in a Chamber Vocal Quartet at the Concord Community Music School, on a Scholarship from Chubb-LifeAmerica. The Quartet performed at First Night in Boston, Massachusetts that year. Trivia: Later in life, while in Navy boot camp, Jerry was in the Recruit Chorus.

Jerry worked several part-time jobs during his school years, including:

• Neighborhood paper route for 'The Bedford Bulletin' in Bedford, NH
• Kitchen Assistant at Camp Allen, a private, non-profit, residential and day camp for individuals with physical and/or developmental disabilities. Located in Bedford, NH, the camp is owned and operated by the Manchester Lions Club and the Kiwanis Club of Boston, MA.
• Caldor Department Store, Bedford NH. (Worked as Seasonal Clerk, Housewares Clerk, Cashier, and Switchboard Attendant)
• Bedford True Value Hardware Store; floor sales.
• New Hampshire Insurance Company, Manchester, NH (Worked as Printing Department Shipping Clerk)
• Manchester Union Leader, Manchester, NH. (Worked in the pressroom.)

Jerry entered the Delayed Entry Program for the United States Navy during his Senior Year in High School. Upon Graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy for the advanced Nuclear propulsion Program. Here are the highlights of his 9-year Naval Career:

• October 7, 1987 Enlisted at MEPS Center, in Manchester, NH (Awarded Paygrade E-1, Electronics Technician Seaman Recruit)
• December 4, 1987 Completed Boot Camp at Recruit Training Command, in Orlando, Florida (Awarded Paygrade E-3, Electronics Technician Seaman)
• 1988 Naval Nuclear Field Electronics Technician "A" School, in Orlando, FL (Awarded Paygrade E-4, Electronics Technician Petty Officer Third Class.)
• 1988-89 Naval Nuclear Power School, in Orlando, FL
• 1989 Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit (aka Prototype Training) in Windsor, CT
• 1989 Assigned to Crew of USS Bainbridge (CGN-25) as a Reactor operator (NEC 3373)
• 1990 Re-Enlisted Under the Selective Training and Reenlistment (STAR) Program, (Awarded Paygrade E-5, Electronics Technician Petty Officer Second Class.)
• 1992 Upon completion of his first tour of Duty on the Bainbridge, and having eligibility to transfer, he requested extension of tour onboard Bainbridge.
• 1993 (Awarded Paygrade E-6, Electronics Technician Petty Officer First Class.) (NEC changed to 3393.)
• 1994 Re-Enlisted second time
• 1995 Upon completion of his second consecutive tour of Duty on the Bainbridge, and having eligibility to transfer, he requested another extension of tour onboard the Bainbridge. This earned him the distinction of having the longest service aboard the ship, for which he was awarded a commemorative placque for being the "Ship's Dinosaur" during the Bainbridge's decommissioning ceremony.
• 1996 designated a Plankowner of the USS Bainbridge upon the decommissioning.
• 1996 Honorably Discharged from the US Naval Service.

He is also a member of "The Order of the Blue Nose" (for sailors who have crossed the Arctic Circle), "The Order of the Golden Dragon" (for sailors who have crossed the International Date Line). "The Order of the Ditch" (for sailors who have passed-through the Panama Canal), and "The Safari to Suez" for sailors who have passed-through the Suez Canal).

He earned designation as Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist.

He served as Afloat Safety Manager and Safety Officer for 4 years in Bainbridge. (added NEC 9571)

Jerry is currently employed by Severstal North America at the Columbus, Mississippi steel works, and he previously worked for Nucor Steel Corporation at two US locations. Highlights of his career to date are:

• 1996 After leaving the Navy, Jerry immediately started working for Nucor at their greenfield steel minimill, Nucor Steel Berkeley, in the Cainhoy Industrial District of Huger, South Carolina. His first title with the company was Shift Electrician; working in the company's melt shop.
• 1997 Laterally moved to the Cold Mill Department, where his title was Electrical Maintenance Engineer.
• 1998 Temporarily Assigned to the commissioning team for the mill's new Hot-dip galvanizing Line
• 1999 Promoted to Galvanizing Line Process Engineer
• 2003 Promoted to Cold Mill Department Automation Engineer
• 2006 Transferred to Nucor Steel Indiana, in Crawfordsville, IN. Current Title is "Area Electrical Engineer - Cold Rolling and Coating".
• 2011 Hired by Severstal N.A. as a Finishing Mill Project Engineer to spearhead completion of their new construction project 'Columbus Phase Two' (codename: Full Throttle), a Push-Pull Steel Pickling Line Facility, and he now supports continuous improvement initiatives for various Finishing Mill production lines.

Jerry Lavoie became interested in the mythopoetic men's movement in 2004. He began attending a Mankind Project Integration Group in September of that year. After learning what the project was about, he decided to go through the initiation training, called the New Warrior Training Adventure in MKP's Greater Carolinas Center, held at the Besty-Jeff Penn 4-H center in Reidsville, NC. He selected the totem: Confident Ram, which is now his animal name. In 2005, he was elected to the position of Community Leader (President) of the Mankind Project of Charleston. He held that post until he was transferred by Nucor to Indiana in 2006. He is currently on a 3-year Sabbatical from the project, to facilitate settling-in to his cross-country move and new job.

Jerry is single (never-married). He is a Roman Catholic. Jerry frequently volunteers in the local schools, where he presents information on Manufacturing jobs, and Engineering. He loves Dogs. He spends most of his free time in his landscaping and gardening hobby. He also enjoys using and editing Wikipedia.
