James Cameron FINALLY Confirms What Horror Fans Have Always Thought About The Terminator

James Cameron (the director) confirmed The Terminator is a science fiction horror film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OnDUpjNqiw — Preceding unsigned comment added by LRQ 98 (talkcontribs)

We don't use primary sources for genre determination purposes. If Cameron called it a "tragicomic romance", would you advocate that we add that to the article? DonIago (talk) 01:57, 4 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ditto. Genre classification is based on how reliable, secondary sources have interpreted the work, not on how the work's creator intended for it to be interpreted. --GoneIn60 (talk) 14:41, 4 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Additional to the above, WP:FILMLEAD instructs that "the opening sentence should identify ... the primary genre or sub-genre under which it is verifiably classified". The genre is indisputably science-fiction, and the WP:WEIGHT of sources favor "action" over "horror" for the sub-genre. Nobody disputes that the film contains horror elements, but it is generally regarded as a Sci-Fi action film. This is expanded on in The Terminator#Genre.
