The Shire of Bridgetown–Greenbushes is a local government area in the South West region of Western Australia, about 80 kilometres (50 mi) southeast of Bunbury and about 260 kilometres (162 mi) south of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of 1,340 square kilometres (517 sq mi), and its seat of government is the town of Bridgetown.

History

The Shire of Bridgetown–Greenbushes was established on 26 March 1970 with the amalgamation of the Shire of Bridgetown and the Shire of Greenbushes.[1]

Indigenous people

The Shire of Bridgetown–Greenbushes is located on the traditional land of the Bibulman (also spelled Bibbulmun or Pibelmen)[2][3] and Wardandi (also spelled Wadandi) people,[4][5] both of the Noongar nation.[6][7]

Wards

Since 2021, the shire is no longer divided into wards.[8] The nine shire councillors each represent the entire shire.

As of 2023, 139 places are heritage-listed in the Shire of Bridgetown–Greenbushes,[26] of which twelve are on the State Register of Heritage Places, among them the Freemasons Hotel, Bridgetown.[27]
