Amret is a Cambodian microfinance deposit-taking institution based in Phnom Penh.[1] It offers loans, savings products and other financial services to retail and business customers in Cambodia.[2]
Amret originated as a microcredit project of the French non-governmental organisation GRET in 1991.[2] The project operated under the name EMT before being incorporated as a private company in 2000. It received a microfinance licence from the National Bank of Cambodia in 2001 and later adopted the name Amret.[2]
In May 2024, Taiwan-based Bank SinoPac announced that it would acquire an 80 per cent stake in Amret. The transaction, valued at around US$550 million, was completed in January 2025, making Bank SinoPac the majority shareholder.[1][3][4]
Amret provides microfinance and small business lending, savings accounts and related services through its operations in Cambodia.[2]
