The Bukit Panjang Single Member Constituency is a Single Member Constituency (SMC) located in the western area of Singapore. It is managed by Holland–Bukit Panjang Town Council. The current Member of Parliament for the constituency is from the People's Action Party (PAP) Liang Eng Hwa.
Bukit Panjang Constituency was created in 1955.
In 1988, the constituency was renamed Bukit Panjang Single Member Constituency following the establishment of Group representation constituency (GRC) and Single Member Constituency (SMC).[1]
During the 1991 general election, the constituency was absorbed into the Sembawang GRC.
In the 2006 electoral boundary redraw, Bukit Panjang SMC was carved out from Holland–Bukit Panjang GRC, which had absorbed the ward in 2001, to reform the Bukit Panjang SMC.[2]
During the 2020 Singapore general election, incumbent MP, Teo Ho Pin, announced his retirement from politics.[3] Liang Eng Hwa, who was previously a MP for Holland–Bukit Timah GRC, was announced as the replacement candidate for Teo.[4] The Singapore Democratic Party revealed Paul Tambyah to be its candidate on nomination day for the SMC.[4] Liang won the election with 53.74 percent of the vote, a narrow margin of 2,509 votes, against Tambyah.[4]
In March 2025, it was announced that Tambyah will continue to contest the SMC in the 2025 general elections.[5]
Note : Elections Department Singapore do not include rejected votes for calculation of candidate's vote share. Hence, the total of all candidates' vote share will be 100%.
Note : MIC is allied with Singapore's UMNO and MCA chapters, similar to its Malaysian counterpart with the exception of not using the alliance symbol which was the reason for the elections department of Singapore to view T. T. K. Alexander as an independent candidate.
