Η Τανγκανίκα είναι μία μεγάλη λίμνη στην κεντρική Αφρική (γεωγρ. συντεταγμένες 2° 20' ως 8° 48' νότιο πλάτος και 29° 5' ως 31° 15' ανατολικό μήκος). Εκτιμάται ότι είναι η τρίτη μεγαλύτερη λίμνη γλυκού νερού στον κόσμο σε όγκο νερού και η δεύτερη σε βάθος, με μέγιστο στα 1.470 μέτρα (και στα δύο την ξεπερνά η Βαϊκάλη). Η έκταση της λίμνης ανέρχεται σε 32.900 τ.χλμ.. Τέσσερις χώρες βρέχονται από την Τανγκανίκα: το Μπουρούντι, η Λαϊκή Δημοκρατία του Κονγκό, η Τανζανία και η Ζάμπια. Όμως η Λαϊκή Δημοκρατία του Κονγκό και η Τανζανία κατέχουν όλη σχεδόν τη λίμνη (45% και 41% αντίστοιχα). Τα νερά της τροφοδοτούν τον ποταμό Κονγκό.
