Leben und Wirken

Der Vater von Albert Cummings war Bauhandwerker und Musiker, eine Tradition die Cummings übernahm. Mit 12 Jahren spielte er Country und Bluegrass auf dem Banjo. Nachdem er ein Konzert von Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble besucht hatte, begann er autodidaktisch Gitarre zu spielen. Mit 19 schrieb er seine ersten Songs, doch professionell Musik machte er erst in seinen späten Zwanzigern. Zuvor schloss er eine Ausbildung in Bauwesen ab und gründete seine eigene Baufirma.[2][3]

Mit seiner Band Swamp Yankee veröffentlichte Cummings 1999 im Selbstverlag das Album The Long Way. 2001 erschien sein Solo-Debütalbum From the Heart mit Beteiligung von Stevie Ray Vaughans Begleitband Double Trouble (Tommy Shannon, Bass, und Chris Layton, Schlagzeug) als Musiker und Koproduzenten. Zunächst in Eigenregie veröffentlicht, wurde dieses Album 2003 von Under the Radar neu herausgebracht.[2][3]

Das nächste Album True to Yourself erschien 2004 bei Blind Pig Records. Cummings stand jetzt mit Bluesgrößen wie B. B. King, Buddy Guy, Susan Tedeschi, Tommy Castro, Duke Robillard und anderen auf der Bühne. Das Album Working Man (2006) erreichte Platz 6 der Blues Album Charts, das Livealbum Feel So Good (2008) sogar Platz 5. Cummings trat vermehrt als Headliner auf, auch in Europa.[2][3]

2012 kam No Regrets bei Oarfin heraus und erreichte Platz 5 der Blues Album Charts. Someone Like You, 2015 wieder bei Blind Pig erschienen, kam bis auf Position 2 der Charts. Daneben war Cummings auch im Baugewerbe tätig. 2019 unterschrieb er beim deutschen Label Provogue, das 2020 das Album Believe veröffentlichte, das wiederum Platz 2 der Charts erreichte. Schließlich schaffte Cummings 2022 mit dem Album Ten (Ivy Music) die Spitzenposition der Charts. Auch Strong, produziert von Tom Hambridge, belegte 2024 Platz 1 der Charts.[2][3]
