Dywedir fod ganddo balas ar safle'r Acropolis, ac mai ef a unodd Atica gyntaf. Yn Y Llyffantod, dywed Aristophanes mai ef a sefydlodd lawer o draddodiadau Athen.
Yn ôl un chwedl, roedd Athen yn gorfod gyrru saith dyn ieuanc a saith merch ieuanc i Minos, brenin Creta bob blwyddyn fel teyrnged, a byddent yn cael eu bwydo i'r Minotor, anghenfil oedd yn hanner dyn a hanner tarw, oedd wedi ei genhedlu gan darw ar Pasiphaë, gwraig Minos. Ymunodd Thesews a'r rhai oedd yn cael eu gyrru i Minos un flwyddyn, a chyda chymorth Ariadne, merch Minos, lladdodd y Minotor.
Yn ôl traddodiad, claddwyd ef yn yr Hephaisteion yn Athen.
Mae Thesews i'w weld yn y ddrama Oidipos yn Colonos.
